-want to apply EDII but can't for financial reasons; if i talk about how i wanted to apply ED (becasue emory is my first choice) will that help?

Your stats look very good for Emory, but a big part of the application is how much interest you show, so how much interest have you shown will affect your chances. Personally, when you write "Why Emory" do not dwell on the financial aid, they will be able to figure that out since you are applying for financial aid, just tell the adcom why emory is your number one choice. Moving from the Ukraine when you were 7 is a little bit of a hook only because it shows that English is not your first language. Another hook you have is coming from Wisconsin, I do not know for a fact but I doubt that there are an overwhelming amount of applicants from Wisconsin.

thank you! anyone else have any advice?

bump? anyone?

I think your stats are quite good and you are a strong candidate. If you wrote a good essay that will help. Did you show interest by visiting or attendong information sessions?

I honestly didn't have a chance to, as we're in a bit of a financial predicament right now, so i can't visit, and representatives didn't come to my school or anything; are there other ways I can show enthusiasm about the school, because I really do want to go there

It is kinda late in the game to demonstrate genuine interest.

so is there absolutely nothing that can be done, considering I do have genuine interest?

If Emory truly is your top school, you are late in the game.

1 No demonstration of interest

2 If you haven't applied yet, waiting until the last minute does not demonstrate interest either

3 Write an essay telling them why Emory is a great match for you. If you can't provide specifics, do your best and roll the dice

You are qualified but that may not be enough. Emory tracks interest and the majority of applicants have already met this recommended action in different ways.

Just do your best and write away!
Good luck

Did you visit the website? Or, at least the "Emory Admissions" section? In two clicks from the home page you will get to a page with "Request Information" at the top of the menu, and at the top of that submenu is "Request Print Information" and "Order Emory's Video Visit or DVD". There you have two ways to show interest. If you've already done that, that's all you need. Emory doesn't expect everyone to fly to Georgia or track down a visiting rep. If you haven't done that, perhaps you're not as interested in Emory as you think you are?

Yes, at least request info before the deadline.

info has been requested...i guess i'll just annoying

i think the interest thing is a bit overblown...i am a freshman here and i applied on a whim using the common app online. I didn't show any previous interest and didn't even send in the second half of my application. The admissions people called me and asked for the rest of it so i sent it in and ended up attending. Don't worry about playing the game...try to be a little bit different.

So hshtein wrote this on 12/29:

tufts is my first choice, but because of financial difficulties, and because I've never visited the school, i can't apply ED

and this on 1/1:

Must have been one heck of a New Year's Eve.

well clearly i didn't apply ED to either, so i didn't write about it in my essays, but i do have two first choice schools.

DriveSitChee; your busted hhstein who was planning to apply ED II to Emory w/o knowing much about the school or was it Tufts?.
I wonder how inflated the stats are too.

I have heard that several student adcom assistants to Dean Walls take notice of this board. Same for adcom at Tufts.

How many Ukranian students from WI apply at the last minute to GWU and Emory?
Hmmmmmmmmm!!!!

I don't really see why I am "busted". I have been doing research on both Emory and Tufts, and I was considering applying EDII to one of them. I don't think it's a big deal to write that I was going to apply ED on the message boards, I pretty much was just showing enthusiasm. I didn't mention that I was going to apply ED to either Emory or Tufts, so there should be nothing incriminating about what I've said. and why the eager enthusiasm to attack fellowe CC'ers? and why would I inflate my stats? that is just plain ridiculous, considering CCers are not the adcoms.

"considering CCers are not the adcoms"
They have been known to peruse this sight.

ok, if that is true, how would it help to inflate my statistics if they see the real statistics on my application?
