I just wanted to know what i need to do to make my application best for when i apply for duke in my senior year, and also how im looking so far.

WARNING: OPINION! NO ACTUAL FACTS INCLUDED BELOW!

try to highlight something about you that's different, something that few people can say about themselves. but overall, you need luck. the admissions process is very unpredictable. for me though, the sitcking point (i think) was that i applied E.D. (early decision). if Duke sees that you are already committed to come to duke, in my opinion, they might be willing to take a more diverse segment of the application pool.

Your stats are dismally low. The admissions process is unpredictable for borderline students, not for those well below the average applicant. Your unweighted GPA should be at least 3.6, and your weighted should be somewhere in the 4.0+ range to be of about "average" applicant status. Duke's old SAT average hovered around 1480, your PSAT equivalent of 1240 is nowhere near that. Your ECs show very little leadership or initiative: you get honor roll for having your low GPA and I'm guessing that just about anyone can be in the French or Beta Club.

Even if you do start taking on serious leadership roles, it's not enough to compensate for your academic mediocrity. I'm giving you a prediction of definite denial as your application now stands.

wow... umm... could you be any more callous?

You have a lot of work to do if you want to gain admission to Duke. You need significant improvement in test scores and your GPA. Even with the most challenging courseload offered, you should be getting in the 3.7-3.9 range unweighted. Put it all on the line this year, aim for an A in every class and don't settle for anything less. Every Duke applicant has stellar high school grades, so it is important that you get more involved and make yourself appear different than the rest of the stack. When it comes to borderline admits, I'm convinced Duke accepts the interesting people, the ones with unique features, the ones that have something to offer the Duke community.

Good luck with your pursuit of greatness :)
