Also, two questions. How do I fit taking the AIME onto my app? I didn't get any awards, but I got a 4, so should I put that down? Also, where do I put down that I self studied Economics?

since tonight is the night of the country music awards, i will quote shania twain: so you have high sat scores, that don't impress me much.

all kidding aside, the ranking and sat's should be able to get you some type of consideration, but outside of the boy scouts, it doesn't seem like you did much else that wasn't school related. a lot of these schools routinely deny students with perfect sat scores. why? i surmise because they have other candidates with equally impressive sat scores but with outstanding ec's. when i refer to outstanding ec's, i'm talking about either serious world changing stuff or impressive summer internships. the good news is that a lot of those kids will probably shoot for something a tad higher than uchi, so if you have good essays, you may get lucky. at least your stats keep the door from slamming in your face.

What is AIME? The stats that you listed above look good to me- SAT is great, the rest acceptable, 5's on APs are great. The ECs are fine for U Chicago, in my opinion, but probably weak for the Ivies. You did not say anything about your interests, why you feel that Chicago is a good place for you. You look like a math person from the stats. If your essays and interview are good, and you make a reasonable case for being at U Chicago, I think that you will be accepted.

B&B: I think you may underestimate how impressed someone might be that anybody lasted at BurgerKing for a few months. That shows commitment.

More seriously, a better answer to the OP's question would be to focus on what UofC is likely to be looking for, and that is not reflected in the little resume above: strong signs of a creative, thinking individual rather than a goes-through-the-motions kid. What does the applicant truly excel at? Any notable accomplishments in those chess, quiz bowl activities? Any intellectual drive or interests? Why Chicago?

mack: i do actually have a healthy respect for working at a fast food establishment. you learn a lot about people there and sometimes you get to deal with whacked out talentless psycho's like ashee simpson on your watch.

you do make a good point about the presentation. i assume that the poster just wanted to get the facts out. when required i would hope that there would be embellishments.

In terms of "where you put things".... Are you talking about the application? Chicago doesn't ask you to list honors, but my son put down some things in the "additional information" section including his AP's. The same was true with EC's. The application says that you can list additional information about your EC's. He spelled out a few things to try and give the adcoms a feel for what he was doing and why.

I agree with the other posters. Your stats are fine but you need more explanation to give some feeling of the person behind those brief descriptions.

Good luck!
