I think your #1 weaknesses right now, as someone hoping to major in a non math/science field, are your Writing and Verbal SAT scores. Someone applying to top tier schools with these scores as (for example) an engineering major with an 800 M score can get away with it – but you, especially if you choose the political science route, will be at a severe disadvantage at a few of these schools by having such low V + W scores. You should work to improve both to be at 700+ if you can.

Great GPA, SAT IIs and pretty solid ECs, though.

If you want to be a “shoo in” at a few of these schools, you do really need to raise those V + W scores.

These are my predictions if your SAT scores don’t push that 700+ level; in parenthesis, what I think would happen if you managed to get those better scores:

NYU - probable admittance (accepted)
Carnegie Mellon - reach (accepted)
Binghamton - accepted
Cornell - reach (accepted)
UPENN - rejection (probable acceptance)
Brown - probable acceptance (accepted)
Harvard - rejection (probable rejection)
Princeton - rejection (probable rejection)
UChicago - probable rejection (reach)
Lehigh - acceptance

Other schools to consider that are good matches or probable reaches for your current stats:
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
USC
UVA
UC Berkeley
Wake Forest
The Claremont Colleges (Pomona, Claremont McKenna)
Duke

thank you for the suggestions and opinion. If you post your stats, then I will chance back

I’ve already graduated from undergrad, don’t need any stats help here! ;)

Obviously those schools are tough so you will need that 2200ish, but if you’re getting that on practice tests it shouldn’t be too tough. Academically and EC wise you look good. Consider ED to one of the schools, just because they are so tough. lehigh binghampton and NYU are the only probable acceptance ones on the list as of now, with improved scores maybe a few others (the non HO, maybe penn/Cornell)

i responded on your forum patriotsfan1

You will definitely get into Lehigh, Binghampton, and NYU!
I think you have a really good chance at Cornell and Carnegie Mellon, especially if you can raise the SAT scores when you take them next!
UChicago, Brown, UPenn are slight reaches because they are such competitive schools but I would not consider them out of your league!
Princeton and Harvard are really difficult for everybody because there are so many qualified applicants! Definitely apply because you will never know what will happen, and applying EA to one of them (if you absolutely love them) can help by showing your commitment and may boost your chances!

Good luck, you look like a great candidate!

Chance back please?
Chance for Dartmouth ED or Brown ED - Will Chance Back!

*sorry i didnt have the link
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1172307-chance-dartmouth-ed-brown-ed-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Lehigh, Binghamton and NYU should all be walkins. IF you get the 2200 then that opens up the Ivy league; otherwise I’d stick to the ‘lesser Ivys’ (ie Cornell) and the UChicago or Carneige Mellon level. That said - apply to Economics. Not as many people do, and that will justify your higher math scores and lower english scores but stay faithful to your passions. You can change once you’re there, anyway.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1177541-chance-rising-senior.html</a></p>

Binghamton - I don’t know too much about this college
Cornell - reach
UPENN - reach
Brown - reach
Harvard - high reach
princeton - high reach
UChichago - mid reach
Lehigh - not sure about this one either

Tips: improve your SAT Scores, get more volunteer hours, show that you are truly interested in economics and political science, and also, colleges sometimes will use their own system in order to calculate GPA. Therefore, your honors classes may not even count under the systems of the colleges.

Slightly improve your SAT scores, and btw, is your GPA weighted or unweighted?
NYU: high match
Carnegie: match
Binghamton: safety
Cornell: reach
UPENN: high reach
Brown: high reach
Harvard: extremely high reach
princeton: same as above
UChicago: reach
Lehigh: not sure

This is after you retake the SATs. Maybe try rearranging your ECs on your application to show your interest in politics and economics?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1179664-meow-i-like-princeton-williams-yale-dartmouth-guess-if-they-like-me-back.html</a></p>

Princeton - High reach
Cornell - Low reach
Harvard - High reach
UPenn - High reach
Stanford - High reach
UChicago - Low reach
Carnegie - Can’t say.
Binghampton - Can’t say.
Lehigh - Match
NYU - Match

It’s hard to say without your projected scores. You have some good leadership and lots of commitment, but be sure to focus your EC’s so that they interrelate and convey the qualities you intend to demonstrate.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1180315-chance-me-ill-chance-back-give-thoughtful-comments.html</a></p>

Great Ec’s that concentrate on your passion  Stress that in your essays/ throughout the common app. Improve your scores to 750+'s for SAT II & 2300+ for SAT I, and these are my predictions:

Princeton - Mid reach
Cornell - Low reach
Harvard - High reach
UPenn - Low reach
Stanford - High reach
UChicago - Match
Carnegie - Match
Binghampton - Not sure
Lehigh - Not sure
NYU - Match

Chance me?
