I'm currently an high school student in France. I applied to those colleges in the US that require the SAT :
-Georgia Tech
-Vanderbilt
-USC
-University of North Carolina Chapel Hill
-Boston College

but I wanted to know what are my chances to get into with this profile :
-Apply into computer science
-Female, French father, Finnish mother
-Currently in an international high school in Paris
-High GPA (Actually I don't have a GPA but I have really good grades so I think it would be like 3.8-9)
-Good recs
-My classes are : mathematics (&maths option) (4 years),
economics and social sciences (3 years),
history-geography (4 years),
physics-chemistry (3 years) ,
earth and life sciences (3 years) ,
philosophy (1 years),
english (4 years)
spanish (4 years)
french (3 years)
physical education (4 years)
I.T (1 year)
Music (1 years
Plastics art (1 year)
-Really good essays
-TOEFL : 90
-Extracurricular activities : 11 years of dance ( I'm currently the vice captain of my team)
- 3 years in a computer science club,
-class president during my freshman and sophomore years
-I won several ski competitions and I'm a young ambassador at UNICEF

but .... I got a really low SAT score ,I can't even write my score, it is way below from 1800 (which is a "bad" SAT score for some colleges) !! I admit I didn't study enough and I took only once the SAT , I should have worked more, but it's too late so do you think even with a bad SAT score I can get into one of this colleges ?

UNC basically won’t even take less than a 2100 from OOS, much less international. Vandy, USC, and Boston all have pretty high standards (although I do know a girl who recently got deferred from Vandy with a 27 ACT)

Georgia Tech is a maybe, Are these schools that you’re considering because you really like them, or just because you’ve heard of them? I can maybe come up with some better ones for you. Wake Forest is a score optional school. It’s in a great city, and I thin k you’d like the atmosphere (I do).

@JuniorBengal OP is intl, GTech is crazy difficult for intl’s. I would say your best shot is Boston and UNC. Your ec’s seem good so you never know you might get in. @frenchfinnish

Since you’re applying in Computer science, if you really want to study in the US, you should consider other good schools where you have higher chances and that also have a good Comp Sci program

@juniorBengal , I visited USC and Georgia tech and I would really love to go there, the area, the people, the programs but for the rest I just heard their names and I went on the websites…It seems I have higher chances to get into a private colleges… thanks for the reply !! I’ll check Wake forest.

@mnm I took the SAT this year (senior) and I only prepared during the holidays because otherwise I don’t have time I finish school at 6pm , I have to do my EC’s , to study for school and I have to prepare the baccalaureate. I know if I retake the SAT it wont even be a good score . Actually the math part was ok but the verbal part…
I don’t want to study in France because if you want to study in a good college you have to go into a preparatory class which is the hardest thing on Earth, you simply have no life, and you don’t study computer science during two years just physics, maths, chemistry.

I’m applying also into colleges that do not require the SAT for international students (I know it’s not fair) so what are my chances for those colleges ?
University of Colorado Boulder
University of Miami
NYU
Thank you !!!

Look at schools that are known to accept international SAT scores in your range, not just schools you’ve heard of. You don’t have a higher chance at private colleges, you have a higher chance at appropriate colleges.

Is there anything specific you’re looking for in a school, or do you like all the ones you’ve listed?
