AP Exams - I received 5s on all 4 of the exams that I have taken. I have 4 more exams in May so I will be an AP scholar in the spring.

ECs
Varsity Math Team - member all four year of high school; I don't have any major individual awards, but teamwise my school has done very well. I have participated in many tournaments and also in the AMC for the past 3 years.

Habitat For Humanity - member 10th, 11th, and 12th - I am currently secretary of my school's chapter. I have participated in 2 builds and currently look forward to many more this year.

Beta Club - member 10th, 11th, 12th

National Honors Society - inducted end of 11th grade year

National Spanish Honors Society - inducted end of 10th grade year. I took the National Spanish Exam for levels 2,3, and 4. For level 3, I was 2nd place (not 2nd place as in #2) and I did pretty well on the level 2 and 4 exams (don't remember how well though)

Summer 2007 - volunteered at Northside Forsyth Hospital

Karate - This is definitely my biggest activity. I have been taking karate since May 2001. I earned my black belt September 2005. I continue to not only take classes, but I worked at my studio over the summer and spend 75% of my Saturdays just teaching for fun. I also have fought at many tournaments, including the Battle of Atlanta (one of the biggest tournaments in the country, if not the biggest) where I placed 3rd in my division in July.

So what are my chances to the following colleges: Georgia Tech, Emory, Duke, Vanderbilt, Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, and Brown. Please feel free to leave any recommendations of colleges you think I should apply to.

What is your approx. class rank?

My class rank after 1st semester of my junior year was 14 out of 634. My numeric average rose after 2nd semester, but I do not know how my new numeric average compares with everyone else.

I went ahead and just added this to my first post.

Your academics look very nice.

As for your ECs, you're a little weak there. Dedication like that to karate is great, but it's really about all you have. You don't show dedication or passion in any other areas, and you don't mention any community service you do, past what your school does for Habitat for Humanity.

AP Scholar won't help you out much; you won't get AP Scholar with Distinction until July. Your AP scores are excellent though.

For MIT and Caltech, your participation in Math team will help you out, but the fact that you have not progressed past the AMC level negates most of the benefits for those two schools. The rest of the schools don't really care that much, unless you have reached very high levels in that area.

Your grades are good; your EC are what is going to determine which colleges take you.

At this point, I would say that the Tier IIs (Rice, Emory, Vanderbilt, Duke, ect) are a match/slight reach for you, but you should be comfortable with your chances of getting accepted.

The elites (HYPSM, Caltech, ect.) are a reach for you, but they're not a huge reach and I would not at all be surprised if one or more of them accept you.

Keep up the good work.

Georgia Tech: In
Emory: In
Duke: Unlikely
Vanderbilt: In
Stanford: Unlikely/ REJECT
MIT: REJECT
Cal Tech: REJECT
Brown: Unlikely

If you are an Asian male, I'd say to forget MIT or Caltech; the competition would just be too great.

wow 2 completely different views
ya i am an asian male so I know the competition will be huge, but I am not just going to give up, I still want to try so when I'm older I don't wonder if I had a chance or not

any more comments?

Georgia Tech: Safety =)
Emory: match
Duke: tiny reach, but probably in
Vanderbilt: match
Stanford: Good enough, but who knows with competition, with a lil luck you're good
MIT: Same with stanford
Cal Tech: Same with last two
Brown: Slight reach

I think you're critical reading score may be a tiny problem, but everything else is amazing. You're ECs look above average. And once you're in whatever college, you'll be exempting some classes with those AP scores too =)

a few more responses please

last time im bumping
