It is a little early to chance you (you don’t have test scores), but I would say you are on the right track! Do take those AP exams as Notre Dame does award credit for many of them. Are you in the marching band?
Actually, ND has changed its policy on AP scores. (I really can’t even figure it out and I have 2 kids there.) But ND wants to see rigor in a curriculum, so those classes will be good for that purpose. I do agree it’s too early to chance.
It is right on the FAQ page of their web site (https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/faqs/):
Does Notre Dame accept Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or SAT Subject Test scores?
We award credit for scores of 4 and 5 on AP exams, 6 and 7 on IB Higher Level exams, and 700 or above on SAT Subject Tests in Foreign Language. Check the First Year of Studies website for specific tests and scores we accept for credit.
I play in parades for my school and such so I march a little. I’m just wondering if I’m on the right track for Notre Dame.
Yes, you are on the right track. One thing you may want to do is look for opportunities for leadership positions. Have a great junior year!
Study seriously for the ACT – you want to be on the high end of your projected score. https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/admission-statistics/
Would a 34 not be a good score for Notre Dame?
The mid-50 ACT for last year’s enrolled class was 33-35, so 34 would be around the 50th percentile. Make sure to take some practice tests before you take the actual exam. You can buy a book or do practice tests online. You don’t have to do a test prep course if it’s not in your budget or doesn’t fit your schedule. But I think it helps enormously to be exposed to the type of material before sitting for the actual test. It’s like muscle-memory, you sit down and you’ve done it before. There are certain things you’ve seen or done before, in terms of style or type of question. Good luck!
@Groundwork2022 - You are correct they will give credit, but the policy recently changed with the new Core Curriculum. Taking the AP will still get you credit, but it is applied differently.
Not being a legacy will hurt. Also, a minimum 34 ACT would be needed. Whats your class rank??? If you aren’t a top 10 student in rank, your chances are slim.
@mark89unc, that’s not true that you have to be a top 10 student to be admitted. It’s just not.
It is historically true at our catholic school. Legacy, top 10 rank Vital to admissions. Chances single digit otherwise. I stand by what I know and have experienced.
