Your GPA and SAT’s are good for ND so you have a 70% chance I would say
In your opinion, what do you think would be the best things to do to increase my chances given my intended major would be economics? Thank you so much
See ND’s website for median SAT scores-- Work to improve these numbers and maybe take the ACT. Good Luck!
I think median SAT was around a 1460? a few years ago, you should definitely improve that to be a more competitive applicant. You’re a rising junior, right? I would look into either online programs or study books (the $25 dollar ones can be as helpful as a tutor, if you’re willing to put in the work). There may be some reduced-price study options if you research it.
Agree with others. Take ACT; some do better with that. Take SAT again. Do the practice tests from the official SAT guide (big blue book). They have old test questions whereas the other books don’t. Skip preparing for writing as ND does not look at that. (unless you need the SAT writing for other schools you are applying to). Focus on the subsections that you were worst at on your previous SAT(s). Contact the admissions counselor from your area–helps to show interest. Visit the school if you can. Start thinking about why you want to go there. This will help you compose your “why ND” essay. Do the essays early and have someone proofread/give ideas on improvement.
1340 - 1520 is Notre Dame’s 25% - 75% for Math and Reading sections of the SAT. Good rigor, nice EC’s, great GPA but you need to either boost your SAT by maybe 75 or 100 points or take the ACT. The same would be true of any highly selective college. You are a very attractive student to almost any college but you need a bit better test scores. Should consider taking either ACT+ writing or Subject Tests as well as many colleges will require
With the end of junior year my stats have changed some, so I was curious if that may benefit me at all if I intend an econ major. My gpa as of now is a 4.81 weighted and 4.002 unweighted. I also finished AP Econ with an A+ overall. As for the sat, based on my latest scores, I have 710 CR, 690 Math and 610 Writing, giving me 1400/1600 and 2010/2400. I was just curious if perhaps now I may have better chances. Also, would my higher gpa also balance out my not so impressive sat?
Thank you
GPA is good: do you have any sort of class rank?(even if not official, just where you stand in the class- top 2% vs top 10% is a big difference). Also they’d rather see a strong GPA and a mediocre SAT than the opposite, which helps you. How’d you do on AP tests? At this point I’d focus on essays and doing well next year first semester. Maybe try the ACT if you haven’t done it yet, I had a 1980 and brought it up to a 31 act just because I was better on the act than the SAT.
Unfortunately they do not release the class rank; however, I do know that I am within the top 5%. As for the AP scores, I got a 5 in AP Human, 5 in macro, 5 in micro, 4 in euro, 4 in stat and sadly a 3 in comp.
That’s great! I’d say you’re in good shape
Hey guys, just so you can continue to give good and accurate advice to kids after me, I unfortunately was rejected REA At least I got into to BC. Thanks anyways guys.
