Bump

you have no chance

Thanks, you’re so uplifting

rspUW… what a jerk… originally i wrote something else but apparently college confidential doesn’t like that word…

that being said…

Villanova: match
Duke: mid reach
Vanderbilt: low reach
UNC: low reach/high match
Cornell-AEM: mid reach

I think you have a shot at all of these schools, esp. Nova, but here’s the one problem I could see: your grades and ranking are good but not great… and all of your awards seem to be concentrated in athletics and leadership, which is good in a sense, but you might be a bit short on the academics for duke and cornell… that being said, your clear dedication to sports and good leadership should gives you a fair shot to all these schools… best of luck!

Yeah it is tough to get a high uw gpa at my school because of the lack of ap classes and you can only take them junior and senior year. I’m not sure whether or not our school posts ranking on our transcript, mine ended up being messed up because I took a pass/fail class that lowered my rank, my counselor described this in her reccomendation from the common app I believe. Thanks for the chance

Forgot to mention that my essays/personal statements and reccomendations were very good

Schools do not look at weighted GPAs - they look at Unweighted GPA + difficulty of courses. Otherwise students that attend schools giving a +2 to AP would be at a substantial advantage over schools that give a +0.5. The class rank will hurt, as will not taking AP Calc, but the GPA and ACT scores are excellent.

Duke - does not consider Class Rank, the ACT is in the middle of their range, and the GPA is excellent. From a top school, I’d say you’re a high match.

Nova - you’re above their ACT inter-quartile range, and above average on GPA. I’d say you’re easily a match.

Vandy - you’re above average GPA and high on their inter-quartile range, but they list class rank as being very important. Still, it’s a high match.

UNC and Cornell I’ll have to pass on. UNC is hard to judge out of state (in-state you’re easily in) and Cornell is hard to judge in general.

Oh okay thank you, that’s what I thought. Yeah besides not taking ap calc I’ve taken the most rigorous courseload available to me. I hope my class rank doesn’t end up being my downfall in my otherwise pretty solid application. I’m not sure whether or not our counselors put our rank in our transcript because of our schools terribly stupid weighting system which rank is based upon. My couselor told
me that she would write a note with my reccomendation describing my class rank (which was lowered because I took a pass fail class) if it ended up being sent to colleges. What do you think my chances are?

Thanks for the chance G.P.

Bump
Please chance me, I chance back.

that guy said you have no chance doesnt really know what hes talking about lol

Boston College- Accepted ( good job!! im applying there also)
Villanova-Match
Duke-lmid reach
Vanderbilt- Match
UNC-Match
Cornell-mid reach (just because i dont really know what they look for)

that really sucks that your school only offers like 5 APs! but your ACT is good. Is the GPA out of a 4.0? its still fine even if its not. and you said your essays were really good so that would help a lot!. Your ACT isnt like a 35 but your extras make up for it. A girl in my class got a 35 on her ACT but got rejected from Vanderbilt ED because 1)her essay was so biased (very conservative), 2) She didnt have much extras 3)( her class rank wasnt that good

so yeah good luck!

Thanks a lot, what you said is pretty much what I thought my chances were. The lack of ap classes does really suck but Im pretty sure colleges are aware of what classes are available at your high school. Yes my gpa is out of 4.0, but our weighting system
is really weird so that’s why you can have a very high unweighted gpa at my school and not be in the top few percent because gpa is based upon weighted gpa. Our school gives a+s which translate to a 4.3, and you get 4.3 for honors classes. It’s stupid.
