@Materof2 oh yeah there’s definitely a cut off. With the amount of apps they receive, I’m sure there’s a “throw away” pile for scores that are simply too low. Unless you’re an infamous actor/ cured cancer/ etc, I don’t see how you can get in with a 2.0 GPA or 1000 sat…
@agentaquastar @Materof2 I will try my best. Thank you. I will be self studying for these tests so do you have any tips?
I have to raise my test scores as well so I’m not the best person to ask.
Lots of practice tests. I looked up some act/sat prep threads on here for websites/free online study materials. Best of luck to both of us I guess haha. (Feel free to msg me if you want to study together.)
@agentaquastar I don’t think my score will increase that much. Maybe like 10 or 20 points if I get lucky. I feel like I might have maxed out my score. Ill see what I can do on the act. What do you think is a good sat score for UVA? I might be on the lower side of that, but I will try to get it as high as possible.
Not sure how accurate this data is http://www.collegesimply.com/colleges/virginia/university-of-virginia-main-campus/admission/
But it’s a starting point. Obviously the closer you get to a 1510, the better. It seems like 1330 is on the lower end, at the 25th percentile. The good thing is that most lower scores are accepted in state, and most higher scores are accepted OOS.
ACT typical range is from 29-33. Again, you want to be at the upper range, but it’s ok if you’re somewhere in the middle.
I don’t know how valuable ur ECs are, but remember all the schools look at apps holistically. If your ECs are just average (which they seem to be), you want to have an even higher test score.
I am assuming you are going to 11th grade. You have a year to work on your grades and SAT scores. There is room for improvement but you need to work on it. The best chances of admission at William & Mary is if you apply early decision. UVA has the option of Early Action or Regular Decision. See how you perform in your junior year. Take the SAT again next spring. Virginia has a lot of good instate schools so you have options if things don’t work out at these two schools. The benefit of visiting a school is to get a feel of the campus vibe and to learn more about the programs offered. UVA and W&M are two different atmospheres. If you apply to W&M try to schedule an interview the summer before senior year. (the schedule fills up fast)
