Chances: Top Public Universities (Classics Major) Will chance back!!

Hi CC! I'm a current junior in high school; can you chance me?

I started taking Latin in sixth grade, and never really stopped; in fact, I'm one of the fortunate few who knows what they will major in at college--classics (Latin and Ancient Greek).

After some research, I found myself with a list of 8 colleges with top (or strong) classics programs that interest me:
UC Berkeley
UT Austin
U Chicago
OSU (Ohio State)
U Michigan
U Penn
UNC Chapel Hill
UW Madison

Then, I used a website offered by my school called Naviance, where you put in the things you're looking for in a college, and it spits out good matches for you. Of those 8 I just listed, 5 came up:

UC Berkeley (100%!)
U Chicago (85%)
UW Madison (84%)
U Penn (83%)
UT Austin (83%)

If you guys don't mind--chancing me on all 8, but especially those 5, would be much appreciated! Here we go!

White/male/current junior/OH/middle-upper class (probably no scholarship money based on income)/one of the top public high schools in the country

Almost all As (occasional B)/almost all honors classes

3.88 unweighted/4.96 weighted/top 10% of class

PSAT: 220 (will be national merit), ACT: 32, SAT: 2150

Have taken: AP Latin (5), AP US History (5)
Currently taking: AP English Lang/Comp, AP Biology, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, AP Art History
Going to take: AP English Lit, AP Calculus AB, AP Human Geography, AP Comparative Government, AP Psychology, Engineering (through my school, credit at OSU--weighted as AP class)

Extracurriculars:

Participant at Ohio Latin convention, since 8th grade, consistently win awards there
Independent Latin readings with my teacher (took all Latin classes offered at my school)
Tutor several kids at my school in Latin

Thanks for reading all that, and thanks in advance for your responses! :D

UC Berkeley, UT Austin, U Chicago, U Penn, UW Madison (Ohio State, U Michigan, UNC Chapel Hill)

Also, if you guys know of any other schools with great classics programs that match my credentials, please let me know! Thanks!!

UPenn and UChicago are both private universities… Nice selection of schools though!

UC Berkeley - High match
UT Austin - High match (if you aren’t auto admit in state for UT, it can be hard to get in)
U Chicago - Mid reach (really focus on the essay)
OSU (Ohio State) - Match
U Michigan - Match
U Penn - Mid reach
UNC Chapel Hill - High match/low reach (competitive for out-of-state applicants)
UW Madison - Match

I’ll have to disagree with the previous poster, unfortunately:

UC Berkeley- Reach (for everyone)
UT Austin- High match
U Chicago- Reach
OSU- Match
Michigan- Low reach
Penn- Reach
UNC- Low reach
Wisconsin- Match

You have a nice list of schools. Don’t forget to apply to some safeties and good luck!

Berkeley, UT Austin, Michigan, and Wisconsin are likely to charge you the full sticker price, which runs $50-60K for some of them. I’m extremely skeptical that they’d be worth the extra $$$ over Ohio State, which is likewise a large flagship with a good classics program.

If you (i.e. your parents) are willing to pay full freight for Penn and Chicago, why not consider some of the other private universities?

[ul][]Most of the Ivies have good classics programs, but Brown in particular has beefed up its offerings.
[]Duke and Stanford would make most top 5 lists for classics.
[]Among liberal arts colleges, there’s Bryn Mawr (women only) and Haverford (co-ed). []A step or two down in quality but still good classics programs include Hopkins, USC, Vandy, Boston U, NYU, and Wash U.[/ul]

As a safety, take a look at Cincinnati. While the university itself is not especially strong, it has an extremely good classics department. As a NMF, you’d get a full scholarship.

If you make NMF, consider Arizona as well, which has a very good classics department (as well as one of the top 3 or so archaeology programs in the US) and offers a full tuition scholarship to NMFs.

USC and BU offer ~$20K per year to NMFs.

“UC Berkeley- Reach (for everyone)”

Not true!!!
