I love Wellesley College, it really is my dream to attend college there. I know I don't have stellar grades; however, this year I was diagnosed with a learning disability in math (yes that is an actual learning disability), and also, Attention Deficit Disorder. Because these problems went undiagnosed for so long, my grades suffered. Now I am recieving treatment and fully expect a drastic improvement in my grades. Will colleges judge me differently because i have a learning disablility? Will they think that I am less capable because of it? Should I even submit a letter of explanation about my grades, or will it hurt my chances even more if a college admissions officer knows that I have a problem? Without amazing grades or national recognition, do I stand a chance at admittance into Wellesley? Also, if my statistics don't match those of a Wellesely student, what are some other colleges I should look into? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You are in range for Wellesely. Swimming just might put you over the top. I suggest you contact the swim coach at Wellesley and express your interest, or have your coach contact him. You might look at Smith and Mt.Holyoke as well.

Definitely send them a letter explaining the reason for your low math scores. They can't take it into account if they don't know, and I don't think it'll hurt your chances. Once you get to college, you don't really need much math at all, especially at liberal arts schools. And they know you can achieve from your high english scores. In addition, knowing about the LD will make your soon-to-be-excellent scores in math even more impressive!

You sound a lot like me, only with test scores about 100 points higher. I got an unlikely letter today. I have a writing learning disability. You're certainly a stronger candidate than I am, but you aren't guarenteed IN either. I'd also check out Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Scripps in California, plus some safeties. Good luck!

Oh my God, you have my name too. How amazing.

Thanks everyone for your input! Thewholeperson, it is quite amazing that we have the same name! Besides Wellesley, where else did you apply? Did you find that your Learning disability was a big disadvantage throughout the admissions process?

The learning disability sucked because it meant I had a 2.8 sophomore year when something inspired me to take Honors Chem, Honors Precalc and Honors Computer Programing at the same time. It's dysgraphia so it has to do with written writing. It was really hard to explain that stuff because I didn't want to seem whiny or anything. I can pm you what I wrote about it if you want. I also applied to Scripps (my first choice,) Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, Occidental, Whitman, Colorado College, University of Puget Sound, Mills (got in EA with money) Lewis and Clark, Santa Clara, Sweet Briar, UCSC, UCSB and UCD.

If you want to send me a PM, I would love to read it. I'm really worried about this LD hurting my chances significantly, especially since we found out about it only two months ago.

haha 3rd best high school inw estern new york - not a big deal. honestly

you shouldbe ok. get math up a bit
