ESSAYS:

Topics include feeling at home when taking courses at URI compared to HS, parent drug use, going abroad, moving around, and about how computer science has combined my interests in language, problem solving, and mathematics.

COLLEGES OF INTEREST:
-BROWN (ED)--parent is faculty if it matters
-CMU SCS (EDII)
-Cornell CAS
-Tufts CAS
-NYU CAS
-BU CAS
-UConn Eng
-URI CAS

Thanks! If you want I can chance back (link please)

Your GPA and SATs aren’t high, but your ECs and experiences are pretty impressive. If your essays are very well written, I would say:
-BROWN-low reach/reach
-CMU SCS-reach (because CMU has the best CS program in the nation)
-Cornell CAS-low reach
-Tufts CAS-match
-NYU CAS-low match/match
-BU CAS-safety
-UConn Eng-safety
-URI CAS-I don’t know about this one.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1574644-please-chance-my-ed-ea-will-chance-back.html

Brown - Low Reach (Because of faculty status)
CMU - Low Reach/Reach (Agree with above post. Extremely difficult for CS program)
Cornell - Reach
Tufts - High Match
NYU - Match
BU - Safety
UConn - Safety
URI - Safety

Get A’s first semseter, that will probably help for those schools that are on the edge. Also, hoping that you took plenty of APs before senior year.

I took one AP soph and 5 Junior year

Brown- Reach (GPA and SAT too low)
Cornell- Low reach-reach
CMU- I’m not sure
Tufts-High match/low reach (it’s improving each year)
NYU- Match
BU, UCONN, URI- Safeties

Good Luck!

Thanks! Any suggestions on deleting a safety and adding a match?

bumppppppp

i think that your pretty competative for brown especially since you are related to a faculty member. Although your stats are a little low i think your good for the other places too. If i were you i would have your family member get you a meeting either with someone in the department that you want to study in or the dean of students or something because those poeple can pull a lot of weight

I agree with jtarps. Your connections will help you with Brown and your scores do place you in range for Tufts, Cornell, and other great schools. You may want to look into some other ivies such as Dartmouth as well because you would also have a pretty good chance there. Here’s my thread by the way if you want to comment: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1576961-chance-nervous-student-please.html

I think you’ll get into Brown.

Thanks for the help guys :)

-BROWN (ED)-- High reach
-CMU high match
-Cornell low reach
-Tufts high match
-NYU low match
-BU low match

You definitely will get in a lot of places. You have a good shot at everywhere except Brown just because of too low SATs and gpa. Good luck and please chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1576421-what-my-chances-getting-into-usc-ucla-nyu.html

Thanks for the advice  I’ll try to improve my GPA for first semester for colleges
