I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think raising your SAT scores really made you any more competitive an applicant. Don't get me wrong, congrats on raising them, but the rest of your app was pretty nice to begin with. Unless I really just don't know my own school, I'd think raising your reading score is really unnecessary when you got a 6 on the AIME.

I think you stand a pretty competitive chance, especially due to your math stuff and research.

my chance won't increase much with improved writing score, right? i'm thinking of retaking it just to increase the writing section.......but i guess it's not a good idea..
Thanks

From what I hear, Caltech really only cares about your Math score. They use the SAT scores for first round cuts, and I'm pretty sure you will make it with those scores.

really? i haven't heard about that....

At the risk of being pompous, I'm going to say that even if you had raised to 2400, it really wouldn't make a difference compared to your original score (for Caltech). You already had a high math score, and would make first cut. Using SAT scores to decide between applicants in later cuts is just silly, because SAT reading and writing have little relevance here, and you have to have upper 700's on math anyway just to show you have a chance of surviving core math.

Let me restate; your AIME score and research are awesome, you were already competitive to begin with.

For the record, my SAT score was lower than both of yours.

does a 760 math "make the first cut" at caltech?

Yeah. Not everyone that goes to Caltech gets 780+. However, its usually those people that get 780+ that make it past the next round cuts because they are usually more involved with math and science related activities. If you've done a significant amount of things in math and science, and you have an outstanding character, then you definitely stand a chance.

Then you heard wrong. Try to refrain from posting about things you know nothing about.

The thread starter doesn't know that you're clueless about this subject, and might make the mistake of believing you.

More wrong, inaccurate information. As Dauntless9 correctly mentioned, don't worry about your SAT score. It's good enough already, and raising it to even 2400 won't significantly increase your chances.

For real? Dang, cause that's what I read somewhere on CC about Caltech and MIT. Sorry about the misinformation then.

Yeah, that's one of the big problems of CC. People who work in admissions, are alums, or are otherwise knowledgeable about the subject are often hard to distinguish from high schoolers simply making things up.

If you want a (admittedly very skewed) idea of SAT scores, check the stat's profiles of last years admits. (You have to search the list of "accepted" and "will attend" separately, even though both groups obviously got in).

Thanks all for giving feedback! I've just sent my common app to caltech...

Good luck to all of you applying!

Good luck rlaq.

Hope to see you here for prefrosh weekend.
