Harvey Mudd - Low reach
Pomona - Low reach

2070 isn’t bad for SAT at Berkeley (average is around 1900) but to get merit aid such as the Regents Scholarship your SAT should be higher, like around 2200s.

URMs don’t matter with UCs; they usually matter only if you’re applying to private colleges. If you’re aiming for merit aid from UCs, make sure your scores, grades, and essays are good.

Your ECs are kinda average… if you can get awards to supplement your activities it would boost your application a bit.

2200s seem possible. I’ve been studying pretty rigorously for the last few weeks for the SAT, and I’m confident getting a 740+ average isn’t much out of my range. Thanks for the input!
I’m also looking for colleges that could offer me significant merit aid, or even better, a free ride. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the chance. I don’t know much about any of these schools except UCLA, Berkeley, Pomona, and Stanford. I have no idea about the merit aid at any of these schools (Stanford, I’m sure, offers nothing but need based aid.)

UCLA – in
Berkeley – high match (In state)
Pomona – Low reach
Stanford – high reach (for everyone)

UCLA - You match and slightly exceed the average admissions profile. I think you are good.
UC Berkeley - Slightly higher than UCLA. Still a good shot.
Claremont McKenna - Not entirely Sure.
Pomona - Might be a bit of a long shot.
Harvey Mudd - See above
Occidental College - Good shot.

Don’t know much about those colleges, but I can safely say that you should be a competitive applicant. Score high on the SAT and you should be able to gain admission to the college of your choice when the time comes around.

Work hard and get something above 2200 on the SAT. Make sure you are determined. I hated the SAT. :). You have to work hard to do good on the SAT. Everything else is good.

Claremont McKenna - low reach (slightly low)

Harvey Mudd - low reach
Occidental College - match

I agree with memot333 and zrathustra in that you shouldn’t apply to Harvey Mudd. It is a science and math school, not geared well to those going into law/business and difficult for those going into pre-med, where a stellar undergrad transcript is necessary to get into med school. A lot of people are thinking it’s a low reach, but I doubt you could get in, as you need a very good science and math background. For business or law, CMC is probably your best fit and with very good SAT scores I think you have a very good chance. Pomona is a bit harder to get into, but again with really good SAT scores you have a good chance. The UCs are probably locks.

Well, if it helps, I’ve done AP/honors science all throughout high school, and I’ve received an A in all my math classes.
I did a practice test in the blue book yesterday and I got 740-760 in CR and Math but only (speculated, since I didn’t do an essay) 710 in Writing, if I get a 12.
Do you think that a high 2200 would be impressive to them?

Well I don’t know much about California schools but from your scores I would think you’d got a pretty good chance for most of the ones you listed
Keep up the good work

To the people who rate below: do you think it would look better for the Claremonts and the like to take AP Comp Sci or AP Stat? Or both?
I have one empty period next year, and I’m trying to fill it up. Which of the below is the best looking for colleges?
AP Comp Sci
AP Biology
AcaDeca
Cooking
Photography (I have done Art for three years, lol)
Mass Media (possibly)…

My current schedule is:
AP English 12
AP US Gov/Economics
AP Physics
X1
AP Human Geo
X2

X1 is either Stat or Comp Sci, X2 is anything else.

AP and GPA looks solid. Hard to say a ton if you don’t know most of your AP scores.

The SAT score is a bit low but you did say you’re trying to bring that up to 2200. Do so and you have a good chance at all the UC’s. I wouldn’t say you are guaranteed in, but you definitely have a decent chance.

Not sure how many, or what subject tests you’re taking so can’t comment there.

I’d say you have a good chance at getting in most of your listed schools, and it would be worth applying. Some of the higher UC may be a bit of a reach but it is still definitely worth trying.
