Chances

I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on my admissions chances.

I am a senior applying early action.

GPA: 3.91 uw
ACT: 33 (36 on both Reading and English, 30 Math, 28 Science)

6 APs are offered at my high school. I will have taken 5 (English and Calculus conflicted), and all honors available.

Extra-curriculars:
I transfered, so not many of the same ECs were offered. I played viola for all 4 years, though. (11 ECs total, most for 2 years each because of transfer).

Volunteering:
48 hours.

I have several academic and extracurricular awards. Maybe 15 in total.

I am worried about:
getting a B- (85%) first semester of honors chemistry sophmore year, but raised it to an A- second semester (93%). I am now taking AP Chemistry and have a decent grade.

My father went to the GSB.

I live out in the middle of nowhere....does that help, hurt, or neither?

My recs will be good and my essays will be at least decent (I'd rather underestimate my writing ability).

My interview was OK. The woman told me I would be a really good fit, but she seemed very unimpressed by my school and the classes offered.

I love Chicago so much and I really want to go! It is definitely my first choice, so I really appreciate any input.

Thanks!

i definitely think you've got a really great shot and will probably be accepted.

There are no crystal balls. (If there were, I would know whether my son would get in.) But looking at your credentials, I'd say you have a very good shot as long as they essays are strong...

Cami215 is correct, concentrate on the essays.

Thank you guys for all your help.

I really appreciate it.

strong chance with good essays.

The B- in sophomore chemistry will not matter at all. Being from the middle of nowhere will help- at U Chicago and at most schools. Admissions people look at whether the student took advantage of what their school offers, and you did. Five APs is not bad at all, anyway, so there was no reason for the interviewer to look down on your school. You will get in, as long as your essays support the rest of your application.

uchi accepts 40 percent of their applications. if you use anything other than a crayon on your essays, you have a great shot of getting in.

BnB... you've done it again... although i have to say that i was not admitted and i used those scented markers...

americanincanada: why were you not admitted?

i was only kidding, i haven't applied... but i hope to be admitted

good luck then

thanks a lot, are you a student BnB?
