Chances?

Reed College has been my first choice since I was a freshman. I attend a highly acclaimed high school in my county, one of the most competitive. Unfortunately, due to some health issues, my grades during my first two years of high school were not great. I am now currently a senior and I am probably going to apply EDII to Reed. These are my stats:

1880 SAT Superscore
3.4 UW GPA, 4.2 W
Multiple clubs including: Philosophy Club (Co-President), EHS, Model UN, Key Club, Jewish Student Union (Parliamentarian)
I have over 100 community hours.
I've had a summer job for 3 years in high school and I currently aid an Art Teacher.
I've taken numerous honors classes and by the end of this year I will have taken 8 AP classes. I have passed all of my previous AP exams, most importantly with a 5 on my English Language and Composition exam (English is what I want to study).

I am also a first generation Hispanic. My parents would probably not need to apply for Financial Aid. I have visited Reed and I have had an interview that I thought went well.

What are my chances if I apply EDII to Reed?

Depends, your SATs are way below the average at reed
SAT Critical Reading: 670 / 750
SAT Math: 640 / 710
SAT Writing: 660 / 730

Low marks in SAT english will definitely hurt you, since Reed has kind of an attraction with english. For international students they require minimum 650 in CR to apply.

As for “English is what I want to study”, Reed does not care about your major they dont even ask you what you plan on studying you apply to the college not major so good marks in english might not be that big of an advantage relative to that you would have had if you could declare. But you could mention it in your Why Reed essay.

And since “My parents would probably not need to apply for Financial Aid.”, you can use some of that extra money and give the SAT one more time, and buy some books to study this time.

i think you have a shot! we have similar stats, so hopefully i get in too!!
