ACT: 30
Competitive MA private school
My school doesn’t rank or calculate GPA, but I have an upward trend - Mostly B’s my freshman and sophomore years, then B+/A- average Junior year, and all A’s senior year first quarter.

Recs:
Wasn’t allowed to read any of them, but
1: should be great, is also my advisor
2: decent/great, improved in class, he wrote me a great end of year comment
College Advisor: should be good, is also my coach, so I know her well :]

Essays: I am a great writer, but I am not especially proud of my essays. Nothing too spectacular.

HUGEDRAWBACK: I didn’t interview. I am planning on taking a tour/infosession later in January, and I will try to get an alumni interview in February. How much will a late visit and interview affect admissibility?

Your ACT is good. However, it is hard to measure your chances given that you dont have access to your GPA or how many AP/honor classes you took. My recommendation would be to find out who your regional admission officer is and start to talk with them so they get to know you.

I think you look very good, given the upward trend and that fab ACT. I don’t think the late visit etc. will hurt you.
You should re-write your essay if it doesn’t “sing”, it absolutely is worth the effort. It is the way you differentiate yourself from the other applicants. It also shows your character and personality to the adcom.
Good luck!

My essay is about an autoimmune disorder I have, which did contribute to my sub-par grades freshman/sophomore years. I focused on what I have learned from it instead of how it has hindered me, for obvious reasons. I like this essay, but my “why bates” essay was bland, in my opinion. The topic didn’t inspire me despite my love to write.

The Bates supplemental was a bit tricky, I agree. I think interviews are valued at Bates, so at least make sure you do the alumni interview, even better do the bates interview on campus. Good luck.

So I want to go to Bates College (currently a Junior). How do my stats look so far?

Academic: around a 3.7 gpa (all honors classes in sophomore and junior year and hopefully some ap’s in senior year)
Sports: Rifle team for two years (and senior year too)
Volunteer Work: MYARC (work with disabled), and two positions in a large hospital
Extra-Cirriculars: Black Belt, Guitar, Photography, Recycling Club, Service Society, Ambassador’s Club, Ping Pong Club.

I’m expecting to get between a 1950-2050 on my SATs (based on numerous practice tests)
Hopefully I can get two decently strong recs from teachers.
My essay will hopefully be good, because I’ve been told I’m a good writer (and Bates loves writing skills).
I am planning on doing an interview at Bates as well.

We went up to Bates a few months back and I LOVED IT!!!

What are my chances of getting in? And should I do early decision??

Extra Info: I’m an American-born Pakistani Atheist who’s also a Straight-Edge, Pro-Gay, Vegetarian.
(thought I’d include that because I’d expect Bates to appreciate that unique diversity to their school)
