Chances?

I am a Junior in High school and I recently took an SAT mock test. I got a 1640. Considering this was my first test, I am hoping to aim for around 1800 on the actual test. My grades are okay. I am seriously hoping to get recruited for rowing.

You should post in the athletic recruits forum.

recruiting may not save you for other schools…if you really want to keep your options open you really need to improve your score. when i did this my psat was like 1690. you definitely need at least an 1800 to be chancey, but 1850 is safer. Don’t wait until the last minute to improve. all of my juinor year i didnt take the initiative i needed to to ADDRESS my problem with the sats and took them 3 times with little improvement to a 1700, and my math sat score was a 470 which is really really bad. your gpa isnt everything (i have a good gpa like yours from a competitive private school), especially to big schools like BU who really focus on standardized test scores.

it took me until i was rejected from a saftey school with rolling admission to realize that i seriously needed to get my standardized test act together. and this school is quite similar to BU, so this definitely would have gotten me rejected from BU. i studied so hard for a month and was finally able to change my score to a 1830 after taking the sat 4 times and the act a second. dont be like me and wait until you get rejected from schools to realize that you need to make a change–i just got lucky that i had enough time to improve. just a warning lol

Thank you for the advice!! I definitely need to work on the SAT but because everyone is different, I’m not sure how much I can improve from a 1640. I don’t want to set a goal that is unachievable. Thanks again!

I didnt think i could either but if i can get my math score up 90 points in 28 days you can do anything lol. go through a whole book and try to learn strategies, and if that doesnt work go over problems with a parent and go over the thought process youre having out loud to ensure that youre applying the right REASONING skills. thats all the test is is reasoning, the problems are really not hard. reasoning can sometimes be the hardest part (it was for me)

Wow! 90 points in 28 days is incredible. I agree that it is mostly reasoning, at least it seems like it. Just need to go practice now
