Retake SAT and try to get 1500+ Critical reading/ math or a very high 1400. cornell doesn’t care about writing.

What is your class rank or estimated percentile? And what college in cornell do you plan on applying to? what ethnicity are you? All this is important information.

I was told by my guidance councilor not to retake them. My school does not do rank but I know that my gpa is the second highest out of 110 students. I am applying to the school of arts and science and I am white unfortunately.

You have a very solid chance but I think you should retake the SAT. You are in the 50th percentile by the class of 2015 stats but arts and sciences is very likely a bit higher. 1420 is decent enough but scoring a 1500 or higher would help you a lot.

GPA is good, SAT is in the average range, good EC"s & leadership, you’ll be in the conversation. Letters of rec. & essays will probably be determining factors.

Understandable. And yes, have you taken the SAT subject tests? You need at least 1 SAT Subject tests to apply to any of Cornell’s colleges except for CALS, where they are ‘recommended’ but not required.

I am taking the Math I in June as well as the Spanish Reading. I am going to apply to the College of Arts and Science. If I take multiple subject tests and I don’t like certain scores, can I just submit the ones I like?

Take Math II instead. Although the math is a little harder (although to be honest, it’s precalculus math – it should be easy), the curve is significantly more forgiving.

You can’t unfortunately. Cornell requires all scores. Although they will look at your highest scores. I got a 570 in Math I and a 780 in Math II, submitted both and still got in (college of engineering). I would recommend taking math ii as well. It will look a better than math I, there is a considerably nicer curve, and the test is very calculator based (as in you just need to plug equations and graph in your calculator to solve problems).
