Hey I have a somewhat controversial admission.
Do I have any chance in getting into one of these:
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
McGill
MIT

SAT (new): writing: 560(essay:6/12), math: 700 reading: 680
SAT 2: Physics: 800 Math 2: 800 Chemistry: 800 Biology 750
AP: Calculus AB and BC, Physics B and C, English Lang and Lit, French, German, Computer Science A and AB, Biology, Chemistry, Economics(Macro and micro), Modern European History, US Government and Politics, Phsycology, Statistics (All 5/5 for all 18 of them)
GPA: 3.9(4 point scale)
Top 1% of class

As you can see my SAT wasn't too good. I do have a lot of APs and perfect SAT2 scores though. I am an International Student (German) but have attended a American Private Schools since 10 years.

oh forgot im 17 and the GPA is unweighted
ECs:
Soccer Senior Varsity
Basketball Senior Vasity
Ice Hockey German U18 National team(8matches 9points)
MUN(ambassador)
Newspaper
Pop-Band

Academic Excellence (Overall, whole School) in grades 10 and 11

Got accepted in ETHZürich(Swiss) and Cambridge (UK)

this seems like a very good "hypothetical chances"..."the kid with bad SATI but perfect AP/SATII" but taken to an extreme extent...i'm suspicious

how do you get 700M but 800IIC, 5's on ap stats, ap ab, and ap bc and then proceed to "forget" to mention your ec which when posted turns out to be as generic as possible (MUN, a few sports, honor roll at school)...prove your existence

hey your right but wrong it is suspious but i had bad college counseling (hey its switzerland what do you expect) plus I had to do my SATI in Germany and got up at 5 am (believe my that got my score down). About the ECs, i didnt really think they influenced my admissions but then i read other threads and thought differently. Lastly i took my SAT2s 6 months after the SAT1(didnt know probability was on it (bad counseling)). Hope that makes it clearer

Yah I got 18 although if you count the one semester APs as half(Physics C, Micro- macroeconomics) it would sum up to about 14. Getting a 5 is getting about 75 to 80% btw

Read the ECs carefully...Ice Hockey German U18 National team(8matches 9points)...Which school that he applied to has an ice hockey team of consequence? (Begins with an H, located in Boston...) Seriously, your stats will probably drive the adcoms mad. The SAT1's are a real problem. Everything else is very good. If I were you, I'd emphasize the ice hockey, and of course the APs and the SAT2's. Write a letter to the admin office explaining your situation. Write the hockey coaches of the schools you applied to that have competitve hockey teams (Yale, Harvard, McGill, Princeton, even MIT) and let them know you're applying. It's not everyday they have the opportunity to recruit a member of the U18 German National Hockey team.

You are wrong. They absolutely recruit athletes. They can not offer scholarships, but they certainly recruit. For example, a girl in my school was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania to play lacrosse.

You really should contact the hockey coaches or the athletic departments, and tell them you applied, and tell them about your hockey background. Guarenteed they'll fall all over themselves to get you accepted. Really, you have a major, major hook. Don't waste it.

Try sending each one of the hockey coaches or athletic departments a letter or an e-mail asking if you can play hockey for them. Something like this:

Dear Coach_________,

My name is __________ and I recently applied to ___. For the past _ years, I've been a member of the U18 German National Hockey Team. If I am accepted at ___, is it possible I could play hockey for your team? I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

I've attached copies of newspaper clippings describing some of my accomplishments

Sincerely,

If you can send the coaches something confirming that you played at that level - newspaper clippings, copies of photos, etc. - that would definitely help. Also, you may want to have your school counselor send a letter confirming that you played for the U18 team and declaring that you are eager to play hockey in college.

One thing I should point out. If you do this, they will expect you to play hockey for them. If that's OK for you, go for it.
