So many variables come into play, especially at NC state schools. There are different criteria for admission for IS students versus OSS. If you were IS, you would, no doubt, be a shoe-in. While it looks like you have great credentials, as an OSS, I’m not so sure of your chances. I have also applied to Chapel Hill, but I am not sure that it is the school for me. I am very apprehensive of the school having IS versus OOS clicks, and socially, I fear that the school may be very shocking for a catholic girl from Utah (me), or a New Yorker. Why do you want to go to Chapel Hill?

How so, do you think it would be shocking for yourself? I am under the impression that UNC is very catholic, something that I am nervous about myself, seeing as I am not.

What is the general view of the cliques and the social scene there?

WasatchSk1er at any state schools you are going to have way more instate students vs out of state students. My brothers attend state schools in Indiana and Maryland and have had no problem making friends. That said I am a little concerned with the diversity and UNC being in the “south”…I live in California and I am Jewish

I know of no other State that limits OOS students to 18% (not even 1/5) of the entire student body. To me, that is a scary and dangerous judicial mandate. This is even more true when considering the difference in admission standards between IS and OOS applicants. han7878, I should not have mentioned religion. Surely, it is irrelevant.
