Hey guys! I’d like to know my chances too so I’d love the feedback. I’ll try not to go into too much detail:) Also I’ll be posting this in a few places!
Right now I’m a freshman. I’m a government major with an english minor. I’m also in the honors program at my college.
College gpa: 4.0/4.0 (I took honors classes where I could and the highest level classes where I could. For example, calc, advanced writing, etc.).
High school gpa: 4.15 weighted (I took all honors and AP courses and graduated Summa Cum Laude).
I’m completely fluent in two languages and was actually born in Europe but lived here my whole life.
My best ACT score was 30. I forget the specifics but one of the english based sections was a 35.
My best SAT score (new version of the SATs) was a 1380. I got a 690 on both sections.
In terms of honors and awards, I don’t have any from college yet so these are the ones I have from high school:
- Summa Cum Laude
- National Honor Society
- Community service award (completed around 300-400 hours during high school)
- Character congress award (awarded by a teacher at my high school)
- I won a national award for a video I produced and acted in with my Tv Productions 2 class.
In terms of volunteer experience:
-
High school - Relay for Life team member for 3 years, captain for 2 of those 3 years. Started a team in my high school and completely led every operation in the team with my co-captain. Everyone was a high schooler, no adults. Fundraised nearly $2000 in the 2 years I was captain.
-
High school - I coached figure skating to kids ages 3-12. Did this for 4 years.
-
I’m looking into volunteer opportunities for college. Will do something:)
Leadership experience/extra-curriculars. I have soooo much more especially from high school but I think these are the ones I’ll put on my application:
-
High school - drama club, was in 4 productions
-
High school - Youth and Government, was part of the judicial branch as a defense attorney. For about 5 months, attended pre-leg meetings and then attended a 3 day conference at the Massachusetts State House where I had my mock trial. My team won:)
-
High school - Attended a 10 day law and advocacy program run by the National Student Leadership Conference. This was held at Yale where I was a prosecution attorney and prepared for our mock trial. They didn’t tell us who won:(
-
College - a part of the mock trial team at my college. I’m a prosecution attorney and my school is very well known for our government department/connection to politics etc. and I’d like to say our mock trial team is pretty good too. We beat many good teams this season.
-
College - a part of the Love Your Melon campus crew. LYM is an apparel brand (perhaps you’ve seen their beanies!) that contributes to childhood cancer research and patients etc.
In terms of work experience:
-
Kumon Math and Reading Center instructor for kids ages 4-14 in math and reading.
-
Worked at the media center at my hometown. There I filmed the national award winning video with my class. I did various other things such as filming original tv shows, remakes of movies and tv shows, did morning announcements live for the high school, filmed graduation, took tv production classes through my high school, and most importantly I did the sports segment for a local tv show that aired on tv. I researched, wrote, and “performed” the segment. Chose my set and such too.
-
I worked at the West East Institute’s 3 day international academic conference that was held at Harvard. I pretty much did everything from running registration to setting up conference rooms.
-
I worked/volunteered at a state representative’s campaign office. Did campaign calls for a good month.
-
Second semester I’ll be interning at the State House. This and the previous #4 were arranged for me by my dad’s friends so I’ve met/will meet many people working in the State House and such which is always good for connections:)
-
I’m also applying to work at the National Student Leadership Conference (the one I had went to and mentioned up above). Hopefully I get the job:)
Sooo yeah. I’m nervous about applying but hopefully you guys can give me some advice.
I like to think that overall my resume/the stuff I do is based around 3 things:
- law/political stuff
- public speaking (drama club or my studio work)
- cancer awareness and fundraising
Of course some don’t fit in these categories but for the most part those are my interests:)
I also have been figure skating since the 4th grade and started my high school’s varsity figure skating team but idk if I should include that in applications.
Also idk if it matters but I won’t be applying for financial aid but I will be for merit scholarships if that even gets me anything.
Thanks so much guys!!!
@Aleena8 There are no merit scholarships for transfers.
Really? In general or for Boston College specifically?
@Aleena8 Boston College. The only merit aid BC gives is 15 full tuition scholarships for entering freshmen.
I see. Thanks so much!
