Chances

UCLA (Doubt It), UCSD, UCSB, and UCI....Also SDSU as a safety.

I'm posting here because I'm sure some of you parents have had kids who went through the UC system.

10th Grade

Geometry B/C
Video Production A/A
Biology B/A
Spanish 2 A/A
English A/A
HL Math Analysis B/B
UW/W GPA = 3.5/3.67

11th Grade

HL Spanish 3 A/A
AP Calculus A/A
HL Chemistry A/A
AP English B/B
US History A/A
Journalism A/A
UW/W GPA = 3.83/4.5

UC GPA = 4.00
SAT 1 = M(690), V(580), W(610) = 1880
I think I can get 2000 on my next try
SAT 2 = I haven't taken them yet, but I just took the avg. of my SAT 1 scores.....so Math2 and Chem are 625

I'm a California Resident and I got ELC.

Community Service = My main things are Relay-4-Life and Key Club and throughout highschool I will have atleast 100 hours, but I'm hoping for 200+ hours. I will also become the Vice President of Key Club my senior year.

Clubs and Sports = I play tennis at the junior varsity level, but my school has almost 3000 students. I am a top 3 player on my team if that means anything.
I'm also really good at volleyball, but there is no male volleyball team at my high school....so I'm the treasurer of a volleyball club. I hope to play on a club team or maybe D2 if I go to UCSD
I'm also in journalism and as a senior I will be one of the editors.
I'm also a member of a sign language club at my school.

Awards + Academic Programs = CSF (I hope to Vice President), Numerous academic achievement letters. Medals and Trophees (Spelling?) for tennis. I'm also signed up for EAOP.

My dream schools are UCSB and UCSD......UCLA would be great too.

I know UCSD uses a comprehensive review and the cut off was 7500, my points total around 8500 so does that mean I'm in?

Also with my stats do I need to apply to any more schools or am I safe with UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, and SDSU?

Thanks In Advance + Sorry For The Long Post

Bump up your SAT (>2000) and keep up the grades along with more APs and you'll be reasonable for UCLA/UCSD/UCB and pretty good for UCSB/UCI. You could also try UCD. UCR will almost certainly take you if you're ELC. UCSB's website this year said they were accepting all ELCs. SDSU should be a good safety/match. Another one you might want to add is CalPoly SLO.

You don't say whether you plan on engineering but if you do, the eligibility cutoffs are higher.

ucsducladad --- thanks for the comments, I will definately have more ap's....My senior schedule is AP Stats, AP Psych, AP Physics, AP Gov/Econ, AP English, and Journalism.

I don't really want to do engineering...I was thinking more along the business/economics route. I'm also interested in mathematics and psychology.

I'm not a fan of berekeley or any other northern california schools, but I was thinking about Cal Poly, even thought I'm not a fan of the campus or area.

But again thanks for the advice...

elc means 99% acceptance at UCI; Irvine has accpeted every eligible elc student over the past few years. (The other guarantee schools were SB, Merced and R.) But, note, however, that the UC's calculate elc separately than your transcript -- until the official letter arrives in early September, you can't be sure. If you do make elc, you'll likely recieve a letter from Irvine welcoming you to campus -- i.e., apply and you're essentially in.

elc apps have a 60% chance at UCLA and Cal, so UCSD is even higher. But, work on your critical reading and both CR and W scores will increase. If you can get to 2100, your chances at LA will increase dramatically. LA also reads the essays, so make 'em great.

Cal Poly is a fine school, but if you don't like the area, and prefer Irvine, then don't waste your money on applying.

I suggest that you focus on prep for the SAT II's more than the SAT I, as the UC's add all the scores together and they like SAT II's. If you get ELC, then you are safe with your current list. (If not you probably are still safe, but your chances at UCLA or Berkeley are probably far less- I think ELC status does give a significant boost).

See if your school keeps records on students who are admitted and rejected from the various UC's. If you plug your GPA and scores into your school's scattergram and see where you fall, this should give you a much clearer idea of where you stand.
