Yeah... I'm going to be blunt... it's not looking too hot.

Your ECs seem ok, but your GPA and SAT score are pretty low. Average SAT for Northwestern seemed to be about 400-500 points higher than yours (2100-2200 by what I remember from the admission's thread). It's very important that you work on that. I think it can be quite difficult to make a jump in score that huge in several months. Work hard, I'm sure it's not impossible. As for the whole AP thing, that's certainly important, but so is GPA. Plus (just keep on bringing out the bad news...) Newsweek public school rankings are generally not veritable (as the method of ranking seems too simplistic and generally faulty in measuring quality). I'm saying what I believe, if other people disagree I would be happy to stand down. If I were you, I would work hard, cross my fingers, and be sure to look at other schools as well. Good luck to you!

Your URM status will help, but I don't know how much. You didn't mention your SAT II's, but if there are subjects you would shine in, be sure to include those in your choices.

I'd say it's worth a shot as a reach if you love the school (especially if you manage to dramatically improve your SAT scores). Otherwise, you'll always wonder.

You're right, I completely forgot to include my SAT II Scores.
Spanish-760
US History-660

Well, I have taken many AP classes and exams. By the time I graduate I will have taken about 11 exams. I don't know the scores from the AP Exams I took recently but I got a 3 in World History sophomore year and it has been said that the 2005 AP World History was extremely difficult due to one of the FRQ's.

That looks like a pretty good Spanish score, but I don't know how it compares with other native speakers. My guess is that the history score won't help, but it probably also won't hurt.

I see you've posted this question in other forums, so you're still exploring. What you need to know about NU is that they don't admit based soley on numbers, and have been known to choose students who have demonstrated their brilliance in other ways. NU does admit some students in your current SAT range but relatively few. Numbers certainly are important, and your GPA won't help, but I don't think your numbers are prohibitive if they really like you for other reasons, especially if you manage to bring up your SAT I scores.

If you decide NU is a good fit, it looks like it might make a good reach school for you.

I also took the SAT II's:
*Spanish-760
*US Hist-660

Anyone else have advice?

bump (10 characters)

bump bump bump

Should I apply ED maybe and I'll hopefully have a 2100+ on the Oct. SAT?

Apply and then we'll see! Seriously we're not admissions officers, what we're saying isn't final :-P.

Yeah, but being an URM and first-gen is really going to help. I'm not sure Northwestern will take a chance on you, but then I'm not on the adcom. Yes, you do need a higher SAT, at least 1900. And you should definitely show improvement in your grades over the course of your senior year. Other than that I just have to say it's a crapshoot.

haha i've asked this question a million times, why do native speakers take the SAT II in their language? it's ridiculous!!!

who says I am a native speaker.. just for your information....i only knew basic conversation words before high school and i couldnt even read or write...just because someones ancestry is hispanic doesnt always mean they spoke the language as a child
