Chances

Hey Everyone, i am a incoming 2007 senior at Radnor High School and i was wondering what my chances are for attending Penn State-Univ. Park here are my stats:

GPA: 3.2 (not sure weighted or unweighted)

SAT: 1180 - 580 math - 600 verbal

Extras:

4 yr Varsity XC (captian) and Indoor Track
3 yr Varsity Outdoor Track
Battle of the Bands Committee - Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser
Marching Band and Concert Band 4 yrs
Spanish Club 1 yr
Climbed Mt. Rainier in summer of 2005

Thanks for your help, and if anymore info is needed please tell me!

SAT and GPA are low but you could get in if you apply really early.

Btw, you have decent EC's but a big state university like PSU looks at SAT and GPA above anything else.

Would early November still be early for him?

i was thinking more like early october or end of september.

I was hoping to apply like end of August early September, will that help at all? and can i update my scores if i were to take the SAT again in the fall?

have a look at this:

<a href="http://www.psu.edu/dept/admissions/steps/understanding/fyprofile.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.psu.edu/dept/admissions/steps/understanding/fyprofile.htm</a></p>

At the moment, your GPA and SAT aren't in the middle 50% range for University Park. If you apply end of August or early September...or in fact even later, you'll definately get into the other campuses, but i'm not so sure about University Park. Also, you might not get your first choice major, whatever that is. If you take the SAT in October, you can update your scores, but by the time they get your scores you might be admitted into another Penn State campus. So I don't know how that works. Good luck!

Check out the stats for PSU XC and track teams, are you planning on trying out for the teams?

well, it says my SAT is in but my GPA is not, and from what i've heard from ppl that have applied from our school, our 3.3 at one school is more like a 3.5 . soo i dont know how that all works. And my xc and track are decent, but Penn State is a Division I school, so i'd have to be real good.

oh sorry my bad! Penn State will also look at the difficulty of your courses and the ranking of your school. If you have a decent amount of honors/AP courses then a 3.3-3.5 GPA looks ok.

Those stats say they are for accepted students. Look at the profile on the web site for actually enrolled and attending students and it will give a better picture. Any school can have high scores for accepted kids since top students may choose to go elsewhere. Freshman class profiles are better for this I think.

1100-1300 is the mid range of attending, not offered admission, UP students on the College Board web site. Its a tough school to get into but look at the correct info so you see your chances are better than you think.

You have a decent chance at getting in.... btw Radnor should stop stealing teachers from Upper Darby School District (i.e. Mr. Granger). Sure you may be richer and able to pay teachers more, but UD still kills Radnor in athletics. Hope you enjoyed your football team's 30 point loss to UD last year.

Whoa....I feel some heated rivalry here. Back to your chances: Penn State uses a 2/3 GPA and 1/3 SAT criteria. Your GPA is sort of low for Main, but apply early, check off summer session, and have some confidence. You'll be fine. Good luck!

when we are saying "apply eary" what are we talking about, b/c my school is going on strike and im not sure if i will be able to get my app in till early sept.-middle sept. Is that too late for my chances of getting in?

Well the Penn State application comes out in about 5 days (Aug 1). Go on their website and fill it out there. From what I've heard from the fifty thousand kids who apply to PSU at my school, you only need a transcript, SAT scores (if not on transcript), and an application. Neither the essay nor recommendations are required.

If you apply by Sept, you will be fine. Personally, I'm sending mine in before I start school. I don't want to have to deal with it during the school year. As long as your counselors don't strike, I don't think you'll have a problem completing the application. And make sure you check off that you are willing to do the summer session. I know about 10 people from my school who are up at the summer session right now. They had SATs in the 1000's and GPAs in the 3.5 to 4.0 range.

I attended Spend a Summer Day at Penn State yesterday. They said that it's best to apply before November 30. That's when they do their first round of decisions. Also, it helps to check off summer.

I'm a senior in GA and I'm interested in attending PSU.

My sat score was 1110/1600 and 1710/2400. Not so great I know. I'm thinking about taking it again.
My gpa is about 3.4 to 3.5.
I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 25% of my class.
I'm pres of Key
I was sec of Key jr year
Sec of Span jr year
I'm taking two ap classes right now, and I'm still in span. (span6 honors.) Two maths this year and a college english class. I have A LOT of hours for community service hours, and I'm pres of my youth group. I've been in office since I was 13.
Softball for two years. I know this isn't much at all.

Can anyone give me some feedback about my chances??

its gonna be tough to get into UP this year. It depends what major you're thinking about doing. For Business and Engineering you're on the lower side.

Really? Well then I guess it's a good thing that I don't really want to major in business and engineering. Thanks for the comment. Do you think there is something I should be doing now to increase my chances?

I really don't know what to do either

I am an out of state resident.
I go to a very prestigious public school, where it even says on our transcript that all of the regular classes should be looked upon as honors classes, which really means adding .5 to your gpa. My gpa is around 3.5 now, but really is like a 4.0 compared to students at other schools.
I got 1900/2400 on my SATS. It was my first time taking it and I know that I can do much better, because I did not study a lot the first time.
I don't know what to do because I want to apply very early to make sure that I get in, but then my new SAT scores, which I assume will be around 100 points better, I don't know if they will look at them because they will be sent later.
Anyone have any suggestions?? Please help. thank you!
