Hi, I am currently a junior, looking at colleges. My #1 school right now I want to get in to is George Washington, but I am also planning to appy to Penn State, Temple, Michigan, Boston College, American, Georgetown, Dartmouth and Syracuse. I am planning on majoring in political science and having a double minor in sociology and physchology. I currently have a 3.6 unweighted, I do Cross Country, in which I’ve been varsity since Sophomore year, Indoor Track, which I have also been on varsity since sophomore year, and I play baseball, which I would’ve most likely made varsity this year, but the season was cancelled. I am involved in student government for my entire tenure in , I am a senator for my class and I am part of Senate for our school, in which I will be Vice President. I have been in National Honor society since my sophomore year, and will be president next year of the club. I have attended three leadership summits, and I was accepted into the St. Pauls Advanced Studies Program, however, it was cancelled due to Covid-19, but I am still going to do the online program they are offering. I have attended three different leadership summits. I have taken 9 honor classes, 2 AP classes and 1 dual enrollent. Next year I am planning on taking 3 AP classes and one dual enrollement. My main question is, do I have a chance of getting into these colleges?
You show clear leadership but look into courses/activities you can do that relate to your intended minors. Penn State, temple, Syracuse, American seem like matches but Michigan ,Georgetown and Dartmouth are defiantly reaches.
It comes down to money. That’s almost always the factor that dictates where you go to school. The list is kind of all over the place. Focus on matches and safeties as the main focus of your list, and make sure they’re ALL 100% affordable BEFORE applying. Worse than getting rejected is a stack of acceptances to colleges you can’t afford. Focus on your home state, and for goodness sake…look at scholarships! Seriously…someone is HANDING you $200,000 to go to school.
Also, don’t choose a school based on aspirations out of high school. As you mature, you’re going to find hidden passions, and chances are you’re going to change your major. The average college student changes their major 3 times. You’re there to gain marketable skills to support yourself with, otherwise it’s a BIG waste of money.
The first three things that occurred to me reading your post:
What schools do you believe are your safeties?
What is your budget?
What do you want in a university?
