my sister is currently in her senior year at stanford (staying a 5th year for masters)

im worried that my test grades aren't as competitive as i would have hoped they are. comments, advice?

Is your GPA weighted or UW?

currently unweighted

Looks pretty solid except maybe the test scores. I have no idea what kind of ACT scores Stanford is looking for. Heck, I only have a fuzzy idea of what's good for them on the SAT.

Your grades are solid, and your EC list is pretty impressive--one wonders how you found the time for all that. I'd study hard for the ACT before your next go at it, and work hard on the essays. If both of those come out well, then as far as I know you'd have a decent shot.

Good luck!

It's a laundry list!

Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

laundry list eh, what do you mean

hmm... I mean, your grades have a slightly downward trend, and when stanford recalculates it, they remove freshman year. Otherwise, just try your best on the essays. :)

lemonada, BandTenHut means that your resume reads a bit like a list--albeit a long one--of somewhat standard activities (NHS, math/science competitions, student gov't, music activities, etc.). Conventional wisdom holds that you have a much better shot if you have some activity that stands out, like USAMO qualification, starting some community organization, doing research of some kind, really hardcore music achievement, or whatever. I'm not sure how much I believe this conventional wisdom. I know from experience that there are plenty of people at Stanford who just had solid applications. I've met people of both sorts.

I agree with Sly Si. Don't be concerned that you haven't gotten national science fair awards or illustrated childrens' storybooks. Everything I did was an opportunity from my school - marching band, wind ensemble, swim team, NHS, science olympiad, etc.... I was committed to what I did and learned a great deal. So, if you believe that you have matured and had your interest piqued by some activities you did, show that in your essays!! The way you stand out is by letting your personality shine.

First let me say that Stanford requires SAT IIs so I don't understand why you wouldn't send them.
Second, the CollegeBoard sends ALL your test scores. You don't have the option of withholding your scores.

Sending ACTs alone makes you less competitive. But you are right that your SATs are too low, and can only hurt you.

If you can write outstanding essays, and get outstanding recs, you might have a chance, but realistically you should not count on it.

SAT2's are not required

http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_2e4_standardizedtest.html

SAT2's are not required, but they are "strongly recommended" and vast majority (95-98%) of accepted students submit them.

Ok sry bout the wrong info. But still, OP took them so they are submitted automatically by CB.

They are not submited automatically, unless he sends some CB reports to the college. That is exactly what he decided not to do (and probably rightly so).
