Chances?

My first choice right now is Berkeley, but I also want to know my chances at all Colorado colleges and the Ivies. I'm undecided as to where I want to go, so any information you can offer on where I would be a good fit would be amazing!! Thanks!!

BACKGROUND: white, female, middle-class, Colorado resident, parents both have 4-yr degrees in math (Dad from CalTech, Mom from Berkeley), public high school, junior (so some of the below info could improve by next yr)

ACADEMICS: 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.6 unweighted, ranked 1st in class of 502, most challenging curriculum available, APs: 10-US History, 11-Lang & Comp, Chem, Gov, Calc BC, 12 (planning on taking)-French, Lit & Comp, Bio, Physics C, Stat, Euro, Calc III (not AP but gives college credit through DU), other honors courses

EXTRACURRICULARS- (yes, I know these suck, but I can write an essay on my intense devotion to Amnesty) French Club (9-12, Secretary 10), French Honor Society (10-12), NHS (11-12), Link Crew (11-12), Amnesty (9-12, Secretary 9, VP 10-11, will be President 12), summer program in Medicine through LeadAmerica in NY, over 300 hours community service at hospital, various other volunteer activities

AWARDS-Honor Roll 9-12, nominated for Prudential Spirit of Community award (one student selected per school), National Honor Roll, Presidental Gold Community Service Award, have entered & will probably win some national writing competitions

TESTING-I haven't taken the SAT, ACT, or SAT IIs yet. I scored in the 99th percentile on the PLAN and the 98th on the PSAT (btw, will that qualify me for national merit?). I'm planning to take the Math II, English, and one other SAT II (which 3rd one should I do?)

ESSAYS: will be .... amazing. All my English teachers pretty much say I'm the best writer they've seen in all their years of teaching.

RECs: One will be outstanding, the other will probably just be average.

Lemme know if you need any other info! Thanks!!

Oh, maybe I should add that I also tutor kids at my school. Also, the reason for the lack of ECs is that I have to take care of my sister, who's like my best friend, after school (she tried to kill herself awhile ago). I also have diagnosed OCD, depression, and extreme anxiety (I've been hospitalized for panic attacks, attempted suicide, etc). Should I put that in my essays, or will having a mental illness lessen my chances?

bump bump bump

You're most probably in at Berkeley.

If you still managed to achieve all of this while living with OCD/depression, that's REALLY commendable. Talk to your counselors/doctors about what to do, perhaps? Colleges shouldn't discriminate against people in your situation...in fact, if all was fair, they would see it as a significant obstacle you've had to overcome. I wouldn't stress the suicide stuff, though...because of lawsuits and stuff (by parents of students who have committed suicide at colleges) they tend to be a bit edgy. However, I would talk to a doctor and guidance counselor about what you should put/leave out on your apps.
And you have really good stats, you should have a good shot Berkeley. As for the Ivies, I have no clue. I applied to one but I really haven't figured out what they want :-)

PS: DON'T put National Honor Roll on your application! Just like Who's Who of America, it's kind of seen as a scam. Your other stuff looks great though.

Regarding the third SAT Subject Test: Do FRENCH!!!

diamondeyes08:

UCB: Safe Match (out of state)

ok thanks . . . and ya i know nrr is worthless i applied for it as a naive little freshman and stupidly gave out all my personal info . . .
