No real leadership positions, but 500+ hours of community service, 3 year varsity athlete (state qualifier/placer, etc.) - but I no longer play, some other ECs, held a job consistently, etc.

Great recommendations (I've seen both of them, and they cite that I'm one of their best students that they've had in their teaching career) from two different subject areas.

Essay about my parent's addiction and how it's influenced me.

My school doesn't heavily weight GPA, they take AP class grades and multiply by 1.04, and Honors by 1.025. Oddly enough, my best grades have been in AP and honors classes, but the regular classes don't seem to challenge me quite as much. Also, weighted GPAs are capped at 4.0 (weird, I know).

What do you think the chances are for peole in the military. I am currently attending the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (West Point prep). I have already applied. I sent my high school transcripts as well as my acceptance letter to west point prep. The chances of getting into this prep school is pretty slim as is. What would my chances be at getting to UVa?

rightous: Your question is very confusing. Are you now attending West Point Prep or applying to West Point Prep? Are you asking about your chances of getting into Richmond or UVA or West Point Prep? And what are your high school grades and SAT or ACT scores?

I applied to west point but did not get in directly.. so, i was admitted into the west point prep school. after this year i have the choice to go to west point or not. we took the SATs recently and we are going to take the ACTs in early febuary. since being at the prep school, i have applied to UR. the prep school does not give us a report card but we did get a diploma for being accepted and we will get another one for graduating. i sent my high school stats- which got me this far:
3.68 gpa
4 years varsity football
4 years varsity tennis
2 years varsity trach & field
had two summer jobs
special olympics
class secretary, vice president
senior class cuncil
Sports club
Success team
Varsity B club
AP Biology and Chemistry
community service
Congressman Charlie Dent's Principal Nomination
... stuff like that.

also, i am in the army while at the prep school.

anyway, i hope that helps... thank you for your opinions!

Here's mine ... if you can get into West Point now, after a year at USMAPS, go for it. UR is a fine place but it's not in the same league as USMA. However, if you've changed your mind about military service, definitely pursue your options. After a year of indoc, you'll know now if it's not for you.

But I trust most of that HS stuff will be of little or no import to UR now. It's whad ya do at prep school. And why would you retake SAT and ACTs? You needed those to go to MAPS, didn't you?
