I have a 3.2 GPA. Although I don’t know if this matters but I go to The Dalton School. Does coming from a New York private school hurt my chances? I got a 2.78 Freshman year and I have gotten better and better each year.

I got a 30 on the ACT. I took 1 SAT II (Chemistry) and got a 710. I plan on taking Math 2C I expect something like a 750 on that.

I have a good amount of ECs: I worked at a local synagogue, tutored kids in Harlem, worked at a non-profit thrift shop for aids research, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s office, School Newspaper (Staff Writer), Editor in Chief of Tiger Wire (Sports Magazine), Varsity Football and Varsity Lacrosse.

How much does it help my chances if I apply ED?

On the basis of your GPA "trend" and obvious intellectual capacity and genuinely interesting ECs, I'd say you've a decent shot there. They'll not hold the Dalton thing against you unless your BU predecessors were flops or trouble, and reflect poorly on theirs and your alma mater.

My own call, and worth exactly what you're paying for it, is that the ED thing might not be a great idea. Show them you're using that fall semester to enhance your academic case vs. shooting your wad too soon.

btw, you'd lend some real diversity at BU ... a Judaic tailback! A genuine rare commodity. ;) Good luck.

Whistle,

My daughter is very interested in Bucknell so I have been reading many of the messages on this forum. You appear to be very familiar with Bucknell; are you a student, alum or parent of a Bucknellian?

It's almost a toss-up in my opinion. You've great EC's and test scores, but I have no idea how your GPA will affect their outlook. Obviously they could be happy to see that you've gradually improved or they might be a wee adamant if comparatively they can admit someone with a similar background with a better GPA.

ED. If your year to year improvement has been significant, I'd say you have a rather decent shot in getting in. And I realize, considering Bucknell at all you've already reckoned that the cost won't deter you monumentally.

After getting in EDII, I had to get comfortable with the FA package, but I feel its a fair investment.

I guess we'll have to see the outcome. A couple of hours or less on essays + $ to send test scores--not too much to lose in applying. ;]

ED helps significantly. I think that a Dalton background could only help. There must be some good guidance counselors at Dalton who could give you an accurate idea of what your chances are.
