I was on the Yale forum a while back as billorani17, but I can't get back into my account for some reason (?!?)

as long as ur essay is good and represents you well, id say ur in
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/623727-chances-would-appreciated-chances-back.html</a></p>

wow thanks!!! that means a lot to me:)

I'll second the part about you being in. GTown looks for scores more than other top schools and you certainly have those.

I forgot to mention I'm applying to the edmund walsh school of foreign service. My school doesn't offer model UN, but I've done the best I can to get active in politics and such (the Obama campaign!!!). I'm going to be doing a Students in Government program soon, and a Constitution speech program, but these are all recent developments.
Do you guys think this will hurt me?
Thank you again for all your feedback. It goes a long way to soothe a neurotic college applicant like me >_<

oh foreign service? eh oh. I'm not 100% on that "you're in" part. That program is more competitive than the others. It's ~ 60% chance I'd say at this point.

ah ok gotcha. Thanks for your honesty

just curious, how do you know so much insider's information? Are you in admissions or something?!?!?

why did you get that I have so much info? My high school has a program that compiles scores and gpa for all kids who applied to all schools. It marks those who got in and those who did not. I have a darn good approximation of what scores are in and which ones aren't.

Also, I'm not sure if this is true for all schools within GTown but GTown has a tendency to take high scores unlike schools like Harvard/Stanford which have enough of those to prefer undiscovered gems rather than the obvious perfectionists.

So generally, 700+ on SAT II's and ~2200+ on SAT along with some distinguishing characteristics would be an accept.

Lastly, consider this:
Something like 50% of applicants apply to GTown just for "what if a miracle happens?" This means that 2x the number of applicants show up on paper. So your chances aren't really 1/5. You don't need to beat out 4 others to get in, only 2 because at least 2 will be long shots.

I'm only using logic and probability to arrive at my conclusions.

You certainly sound like an admissions representative, or at the very least, someone who has been in a room while admissions officers are making these decisions.
Thanks again for all your help.
