I am a senior at a high school in Western, NY and am a full diploma candidate for the IB program. Binghamton is my first choice and I applied EA back in October. I have an unweighted GPA of about 90.5, and I am about 235th out of a class of over 600 (I would be in the top ten if my school weighted averages). I have a few very bad test scores (a 56 in pre-calc and a few 70's) on my transcript. I received a 35 on english and a 33 on reading for the ACT, but only a 24 on math and science and an 8 out of 12 for writing, which brought my composite to a 28. I did poorly on the SAT (1190 out of 1600). I am editor-in-chief of my school's newspaper, I am a student ambassador, I am in French National Honor society, I have done community softball and cheerleading, I have over 60 hours of community service and I have expressed interest in Binghamton by visiting last year and corresponding with the admissions rep for my area about ten times. I created an InDesign document with stories that I have written for the school newspaper and a teaser with little facts about me and sent it as a PDF to the school. I hope to major in Political Science, Pre Law or English with a concentration in Journalism. What are my chances of being accepted EA (I know we're supposed to find out next weekend...)?

probobly below last years acceptance rate, sorry.

You have more than a 30% chance. It will be very competitive this year but I think you have a decent chance. I would say 50/50 (accept/deny).

sorry, but definitely not EA, maybe RD

Thanks for the honesty. Are they deferring at all this year?

Yes; however, most applicants clearly fall into a category of "admit" or "deny". Best of luck!
