Chances?

Hello,

I will be applying ED II to SCS.

SAT: 730 CR 700 M 710 W (first time, taking again next week)
US History: 770
Math II: 800
Chemistry: 680
APUSH: 5
AP English Lang: 5
AP Computer Science: taking in May
AP Calculus AB: taking in May
AP English Literature: taking in May.
I've taken all of my school's APs except for enviro sci.

Freshman GPA: 3.5 Weighted, 3.4 UW
Sophomore: 3.7 Weighted 3.45 UW
Junior: 4.8 Weighted 4 UW (yeah, big jump)
Senior (first quarter): 4.7 Weighted 3.7 Unweighted
Overall: 3.94 Weighted (not counting senior year) 3.64

Also, I got to a pretty competitive school. Nothing like Stuyvesant, but probably in the top 5% of schools.

I'm ranked 14th out of 57.

I'm class president.

I've done four seasons of sports total (1 in freshman year, 0 in soph, 1 in Junior, 2 in senior).

I've been involved in yearbook committee and I am vice president of the investment club and im in 1st place (out of 9).

I've done community service here and there, probably about 80 hours total throughout highschool.

In Junior year I won the #1 award in all of my classes but 1.

Also, I'm heavily involved in a highly advanced project that is highly relevant to Computer Science. Let's just say that it will look very impressive, it shows that I definitely know what I'm doing when it comes to Computer Science.

My teacher recommendations are very good. Probably a bit better than average compared to other applicants. My essays will probably be a bit better than average too (I'm actually better with English than I am with math).

Ok those are my stats. Thanks for taking the time to look them over.

Also, I was wondering about this. When I took the SATs back in January, I hadn't studied at all. I'm taking them again next week and I've studied a lot and I feel very confident. If I got, say, 750, 750, 750, how much would that help? I think it's a reasonable estimate.

And also, if I get rejected ED II, can I apply regular decision? I'm taking physics this year and I'll be taking the SAT physics subject test, which I think ill get an 800 on. My chemistry score kind of sucked because my teacher kind of sucked.

Thanks again.

Your profile is quite impressive and I believe you have a good chance of getting in. SCS is very competitive but ED II will increase your chances by a lot. The only thing I am worried about is your class rank 14/57 but if your high school is truly ranked in the nation I wouldn’t worry about the rank to much.

“And also, if I get rejected ED II, can I apply regular decision?”

CMU’s policy is you can only apply ED to one school. Also, if you are rejected early decision at that school you may not apply to that school for regular decision but you are free to apply to a different school within CMU.
