Chances

im not sure if im posting this in the right forum or anything
but these are my stats and i know you guys dont know anything 100% but maybe you have a better idea than i do
that being said, here goes nothing

i go to a really competitive private school in manhattan, hopefully #1 in class, maybe 2

scores
2380 on sats (800 writing, 800 cr, 780 writing)
790 chem
770 lit
800 1c

uh...
im president of science club, an editor of science newspaper, and editor of two other smaller newspapers and a contributer to the spanish newspaper. i also go to math team and art club on occasion. i volunteered in a old age home. i did a college program one summer, where i took a polisci course. i also worked two summers in labs and will hopefully do an intel project this (my 2nd) summer.
we cant take ap classes till senior yr so then im taking ap phys, ap bc calc, ap spanish and honors america (which counts as an ap) and then a reg english class. i might push for a 5th honors class, honors english, instead of the reg one if it would make a diff.
thoughts?

ur a shoe-in

i forgot-
my gpa is currently around 4.1ish
im in ntnl spanish honor society, made first round in national merit and am waiting on next round
oh yeah and am super cool

oh and duke person- are you being sarcastic?

yeah, but in truth u have a good to great chance

The scores are all good. The newspaper thing might be a good EC (not to mention your lab work), but otherwise they're a little weak/spread out. I'm a little bit concerned about your SAT Is--they seem to have had two writing sections. Anyways, you should definitely take Math IIc--it's highly preferred. Depending on the size of the newspapers and the time commitment involved, which I couldn't really figure out from your stats, I'd put your chances as decent but not spectacular. If you make Intel SF, of course, that'll help.

the new sat, effective my year, has 3 parts- math, c.r, and writing

and how much better is IIc?

(and yes, im starting to regret posting my stats as my fear of rejection has just gone up many many times)

WOW. As an editor of 3 different newspapers, even though they are, as you say, small, (though I have no idea how small) how do you handle all the copy? Even before I became chief of our newspaper, my news editor job consisted of close to 10~12 copies MINIMAL, and with layout weeks and everything, how do you manage?

Anyways, congrats. You're a strong applicant.

"(800 writing, 800 cr, 780 writing)" was what I was facetiously referring to.

Anyways, yeah, just take IIc... if you're good enough at math standardized tests not to make mistakes on Ic, you'll be alright for IIc. It's just a harder test and it'll make you more competitive. Because you haven't had a chance to take an AP math, you're going to want some way of showing that you're strong at math (since you're on math team and all), especially since a lot of Harvard applicants already have taken AB or BC.

my bad- i meant 800 math.

anyways, ive recently visited princeton and yale and i fell in love with both of them. you guys probably had to make the same desicion, so what factor drew you to harvard as opposed to the aforementioned schools?

ill consider IIc, thx. damn you college board! damn you!

thanx to everyone for posting

what school?

Harvard is right in a very culturally and socially engaging city that's right next to an even bigger one. New Haven isn't nearly as interesting IMO (although it does have better pizza...). I've grown up in a town that manages to be just off-center of nowhere even though it's sort of near Boston, so I want to be in a city; Princeton just doesn't cut it there. That and you can take grad courses, as well as do music stuff at NEC.
