Chances...

Another chances thread, if anyone wants to reply go right ahead!

Anyway I'm an international student (Belgium) which is -hopefully- a good thing. I'm the first generation going to college, and caucasian (so not any minority)

I go to one of the best schools in Belgium and have a class ranking of 2~50 (first and second are only apart by on 1 point -out of a hundred). We don't have GPA's but I have an average score of 84% and class average is 64%. I take A LOT of classes all AP or advanced honors:

World History, Math, Physics, Biology, Geography, Chemistry, English (AP)
Had scores of 4.5 or 5 on all.

Take French and Latin Advanced Honors (college level courses)

Awards:
9th:
Exceptional W History Award
Exception Social Sciences/Philosophy Award

10th:
Award for Academic Achievement

11th:
Award for Academic Achievement
Award for services to the school (EC's and stuff)
Exceptional History Award
Exceptional Latin
Exceptional Maths
Exceptional Social Sciences

EC's
President of the student council (11-12)
Founded and lead several clubs which I'm not all writing down.
=> my EC's are really good, diverse and show a lot of input (eg Tutoring, Head Editor of Paper,...), and I had a couple of summer jobs.

My essays are amazing according to my friends and family, very personal and well written. And I also included a research abstract which shows a link between math and latin poetry.

And my teacher recs are equally amazing. Both said I was one of their favorite/best students in a very long time, that I show great academic promise,... Guidance counselor's rec is even better, he calls me the best student he's ever known and compares me to Shopenhauer...

So what do yous say?

(ps: taking my SAT's next month)

Your EC's sound good, but you have no distinguishing awards (What's Latin Award???). Being international may or may not help you this year, and I don't see the Varsity sports and Orchestra/Band/Choir EC's many people have. I'd say you have the average 25% chance.

i agree. you dont seem to really distinguish yourself from other people. What clubs have you started/lead. What about community service? And one more thing...who is Shopenhauer?

Latin award is the award given to people who excelled in Latin (the language) :s And I do believe they distinguish me because never in my school's history have they given someone more than 4 awards in one year. i had six last year. And i do have a lot of good EC's i just didn't feel like writing them all down, the include community service and several clubs i founded and lead. And please! Shopenhauer! Come on people!! :d

oh and I'm counting on my essay and my research abstract to set me apart even further. About the varsity sports thing, we don't have stuff like that. You can only play team sports when you join a club...

Well getting 4.5 on your AP exam will surely distinguish you! Because that's not a possible score

haha yea maybe he means like average of 4.5

sorry, I meant 4 ;)

you should get your essays judged by people other than your family/friends
