help out an international student

hi! i know a lot of people ask to get their scores looked at wanting a prediction it they'd be allowed at yale/harvard? I wonder i you could do the same for me? the "special" thing is i'm from europe so some stuff like GPA or AP's and letter grading (A, B+,..)doesn't apply to me... (plus international student might be considered as "minority"?) anyway this is all the info i can give you so any help would be greatly appreciated!

classes i take (+ mid terms results) (i'm a junior in one of the best Belgian HS's)

Science
- biology 80%
- chemistery (college level) 86%
- physics (also college level) 92%
- math (advanced college class, 7 hours a week) 86% (top 3 of class)
- geography 84%

Languages & others
- "ethics" (a combination of psychology/sociology) 93%
- Latin (college level, 4h/a week - Vergil,...) 87% (best of my class)
- English 90% (best of class)
- French only 76% but i'm dropping it soon ( i HATE French :d)
- Dutch 76% (likewise)
- History (world and european) 81%

overall i'm always at least 20% above class average and am in the top 1 percent of my class

SAT 1590 (790 verbal, 800 math), am taking SAT II and ACT next month

EC:
- class president and president of the student body
- editor of school paper (next year probably head-editor)
- tutor in Math, Latin and English (in my HS)
- volunteer for amnesty international

prizes
- prize for overall academic achievement
- for best Dutch, Latin and some other classes
- prize for best essay/thesis (about existentialsm)

plus i've got an excellent letter of recommendation from my Latin teacher and the principal

so what do you think? could i get in (harvard or yale)? i know it's kinda different... but your help would be great...
thanks!

wow,if the high 80s make you one of the best in the class, then your classes must be incredibly hard. i think you have a good shot at harvard and yale, although its really difficult to give any particular probability of acceptance. you will, by the way, not be considered a minority though, just an international.

i think ECs are your weakest spot; unless you've done a huge amount of stuff for the organizations you're involved in, they don't look all that impressive or unique. but that's just what i think.

luck!

thanks for the advice/quick reply!

I think you have a great chance. It's always tough for internationals, but it seems as though you're in the upper echelon of int. applicants. The lack of really outstanding EC's, as twinkie said, is probably your only real weakness.

does anyone have any recommendations for good EC's or something like that? anyway to boost that "weak" part?
