haha, are u trying to boast =P, lol jk. your definitely in!

No no, not at all! I’m honestly nervous is all. I know a lot of my scores are well above average, but I’m also applying for Computer Science. And given that Stony Brook has quite a good reputation for Computer Science, I’m a bit worried about having to compete with other qualified applicants. That comment is definitely a confidence booster, though.

Also, do you think I have a chance at getting into the Honors College program? My scores are slightly below the medians, especially my unweighted average (93ish vs. 97) but I’m taking a very rigorous course schedule and my grades have been steadily improving if anything since my freshman year. I should also note that I should have VERY stong teacher recommendations. I basically live in my teachers’ classrooms after school.

(And on that note, I read that the Honors College students are offered an opportunity to live in a separate residence hall. Anyone know what kind of rooms are in that residence hall? Not a huge fan of the corridor style ones.)

I’m almost positive that applying as an incoming computer science major won’t make it any more difficult. Unless things are different from when I applied to SB, you have to take a certain sequence of CSE classes once you’re matriculated with a certain GPA before you’re considered a CSE major. Stony Brook isn’t like other schools where you have to apply to “transfer” between the other colleges, you just need a certain GPA. In this case, you’ll have to have at least a 2.8 after matriculation to declare CSE.

As for the Honor’s College, they’ll definitely consider you. There are very few HC seats, so they reject many qualified people. However, I’d be surprised if you didn’t make at least University Scholars program.

The Honor’s College is housed in Toscanini College, Tabler Quad. While this building isn’t exclusively HC people, a majority of the HC students do live here. HC students can choose to live anywhere they like, but it might be required to live here for your first year. Tabler Quad is suite style, with three double bedrooms in each suite with one bathroom. The bathrooms and lounge are cleaned once weekly, and the building has one of the best social atmospheres on campus as the HC is a very tight nit community. The biggest disadvantage to Toscanini College is the Tabler Stairs, which is something like 100 stairs that you have to go down to get to the academic mall on top of however many stairs you have to go down from your dorm. From there, it’s a relatively long walk to the academic mall as well. The nearest food court is Roth, and the TAC. The Kelly Dining Center is relatively close as well if you’re willing to take the ‘Rape Trails’ which run between Tabler to Roosevelt Quads.

Wow! Thanks so much Keleso. So much useful information! I don’t think stairs would bother me nearly as much as having a corridor style residence hall would. Bit of a disturbing name for some trails, though…

Next time you can save a lot of trouble by looking at Stony Brook’s matriculant information lol. Although it’s true that nothing can guarantee admission, if you took the time to look up information on your own you’d see that you’re far above the norm. If you need your ego stroked go do it somewhere else, this forum is for people with genuine questions. Not for people who need to make themselves feel better.
Claiming that you “honestly” are nervous really exacerbates your position, unless you lack a considerable amount of intelligence considering it isn’t too hard to come to the conclusion that you have a very good chance of getting into a school when your own credentials far excel the average scores of the school.

So I guess it’s either

 1. You looked up the aforementioned information and decided to post this question anyway, or
 2. You really didn’t look up the information, betraying your laziness.

In the former situation you’re sad, in the latter you’re lethargic. Sophie’s choice indeed.

Am I above average? Yes. Are all matters purely statistical? No. Thanks for feeling the need to act like a jerk for no reason though, and make assumptions about my motives when you honestly have no idea.
