GPA: 2.4 ....but upward trending from my freshmen, soph, junior year average of 1.995 (i decided not to take any honors classes so I could focus on the classes I have)

SAT:
440 Math
470 Verbal
520 Writing

SAT 2:
Math level 1: 500
Spanish: 320 (i had never learned spanish until i tried to teach myself the language the night before...not bad though)

Extra-Curiculars

Relaxation Club: Member 1 hour per week

my essays....
i am going to talk about how I have been inspired by the time I spent sleeping during relaxtion club meetings

my teacher recs should be excellent..... my PE teacher and ceramics teacher both love me ( i got a B+ in PE even)

i know there are a lot of qualified applicants, but what are my chances, specifically MIT?

Thanks

Very high chances. Take a shot.

MIT-Match
Harvard-Safety
Princeton-Safety
Yale-Safety

Try some better schools, like Stanford. These are below your caliber.

Oh my god! Are you guys ****ing joking me?

Matches all across the board.

thanks for the fun post!

my counselor said that "hell would freeze over before I got into MIT", but you guys have given me such confidence....i emailed her and told her that she is fired.

Finally, some one who can lighten the mood on CC.

omg are you fuxking serious....your in without a doubt

keep up the good work..

lol. you guys are jerks lol.

Jerk? We are just being frank. :D

I don't know if your writing score is good enough for Harvard, but the math score definitely makes MIT a safety. You are one of very few people who could honestly consider MIT as a safety, and probably get some good merit scholarships.

mastert tang, could you elaborate on the merit scholarships??

I would kind of feel guilty taking money from other high school seniors who have probably worked as hard as me, but just aren't as bright

Everything is possible, let your passion shine in your essays. You have to be able to distinguish yourself from everyone.

Good Luck!

Lol. I'm jealous.
I say in at all.

Well, I know that in general MIT gives out almost no merit money, but they have one scholarship for the person with the most internationally recognized exrtracurriculars. I have never heard of a more challenging or original club than the Relaxation Club, and the way you tied it into your essays is ingenious. The average person is intimidated by MIT students; MIT students will all be in awe of you.

^ missed it

oracle, why do u even have to ask us? stop trying to show off and boost ur confidence

well actually pk123...i was actually being modest....if i really wanted to show off i would have told you that Drexel University sent me an email saying that they were a good college
