When I submitted my college applications, I was under the impression I would be on my school soccer team-- when spring came around my schedule has not allowed for my participation. I know around this time, colleges have an idea of who is admitted and what not, however I am wondering what is the best way to contact the schools? Should I contact the schools? What are the chances they will rescind my admission? I am really worried!
No, it is an honest mistake and I would contact the schools immediately. Chances are they have not made the final decision yet. It is still a reading period.
You’re not a recruited athlete— your colleges aren’t basing their willingness to accept you due to your participation in a sports team. Ignore it. It’s nothing to bother them with. Now if you were dropping an AP class or something, that would be a big deal
Isn’t it funny that till now you’ve got two replies, both of which contradict each other?
Personally, I’d recommend you send a short email explaining the situation. As @T26E4 said, it’s not a big deal and they might just ignore the email. But, just to be on the safe side, I’d say you send a short and sweet email. It won’t harm or hurt your application.
@determined2300 Varsity sport is a huge time commitment, which generally means that the adcoms evaluate other ECs relative towards that activity. Obviously, I would assume that because OP based his/her schedule with the sport, s/he would have significantly less amount of ECs on his/her application due to perceived time restraint.
Since there is a huge(IMO) discrepancy now in OP’s application, it would be unfair for other applicants who are actually committed and involved with varsity sports.
Aside from unnecessary in-depth analysis, it is always good to rectify any “mistakes” on the application since it may be grounds for admission revocation.
I am very involved in both school activities and extracurriculars outside; the number of things I am involved is no issue, I just wanted to what the weight of the removal would be. Thank you for your responses, much appreciated.
