Change in Application

Hello!
I finished submitting my applications several weeks ago, but I’m my extracurriculars are likely going to be different from what I put on my application. Do I have to tell the colleges?
The specifics:
I filled out an application for the National Honor Society at the beginning of the year because it was the first year that my school was a member, and I figured why not just sign up. Stupid as I am, I didn’t look into the society at all, and so it came as a surprise to me when they told me recently that I have to pay $60 to be a member. (Honestly, what a scam! Pay people some money so your application can look better.) So I really don’t want to pay this or be a member anymore. However, I put on my application under the honors section that I was chosen to become a member of the NHS. I mean, technically this isn’t lying as I was chosen to become a member, but I just don’t want to continue being a member. (Please note that at my school members don’t do anything/they aren’t a club or anything.) Is it wrong for me to keep this on my application?
Additionally, I have another thing that may need to change on my application. I said that I would be continuing my summer job in 2016, but it’s looking like this isn’t actually going to happen as there is an internship at a lab that I will hopefully be able to do instead. Is it considered lying if I don’t tell the colleges I’m applying to this as well?
So, do I need to tell the colleges I’m applying to about the changes in my life, and if so how?
Thanks!!

I would not tell them about those right now. If the lab internship actually starts before you hear back on acceptances, I would let them know about that change. More because the internship might give your ECs a boost.

Ok, thanks for the advice!
And do you think that the fact that I didn’t pay to become a member of the NHS is insignificant enough that I don’t have to tell my schools, or should I?

Don’t worry about that one.

I would not worry about it. The application was written at one point in time and your were truthful at that point. These are both minor things in the your application.

Thank you for your replies!

what about changes like an Elective course in which I completed Pyschology A but replaced Psychology B with a sport?

You need to tell them about course schedule changes.

I agree that you should notify schools of your change in schedule.

Thanks…just notified the UC’s
