Vandy alum here! The only way you will get rejected from Vandy is if you have poor recs and right a bad essay. Your GPA isn’t spectacular, but ED should make up for that :)

“right a bad essay.”

OP, be sure to check your spelling and grammar! @AnnieBeats is setting a bad example.

@ScienceGirlMom Whoops!!! Sorry! Make sure you edit your essay too.

If you apply early, I think you have a good chance.

I would see if your school Naviance site can give you some perspective, assuming you have access to the site.

Vanderbilt is now a reach for everyone and every class is more distinguished than the last. With Vandy’s # 1 ranking for happiest students more & more students will want to attend. Your test scores are great but your GPA and rank are not what they should be for a 2300 SAT student. I love your work with autism fundraising and volunteer work and suspect Vandy may like that as well. Good luck.

Your essays and references will matter. You don’t have to be a spectacular person to write good essays. Please invest in Bauld’s short essay book on college essays. DO the exercises. Not everyone is a Varsity athlete and an office holder. No matter what, consider Vandy to be similar in odds to some of the Ivies for admission and plan accordingly. Find a FINANCIAL match and a college that will do a good job in your major and socially is a decent fit for you now matter what. Lots of kids with 2300s go to their financial match college in this economy. Don’t apply to only reach colleges with gobs of equals in the applicant pool. In this economy, choose a major related to the job market and or to a graduate school path that leads to something in the job market. Sometimes your honors program in your flagship college is a great plan. Graduate school is expensive and big loans are a terrible idea in undergraduate college. Take the long view. Make your senior year about putting yourself on the line and dealing gracefully with the options before you in May. Get to know Vanderbilt and your other college list schools (newspapers, academic journals they produce, etc) and emotionally connect with each of colleges–visualizing four years at each of them… even if you don’t end up getting pinned (ancient dating ritual) by some of them. It feels a bit unnatural…like dating five guys who are all nice and smart, but at least you are in the game of life!

Current student at Vandy. If you apply early decision, I think you have a strong chance of getting in. However, if you apply regular decision, I do not think you even have a shot since you are not in the top 10%.

@Faline2 Are you thinking of Baud’s book from 1987?

yes…it has been updated …don’t neglect your essays…read and absorb good ones and dig in.
