I’m applying to CALS for Information Science but am also considering CAS Computer Science. Will it be harder down the road to change majors, or will the pre-reqs of both majors allign?
You would have to go through an internal transfer process. To internally transfer to CAS, you’d have to be either a freshman or sophomore and be taking at least 11 credits in CAS the semester you apply to transfer. So it would be a process, but it is doable.
Here’s the link describing the requirements: http://as.cornell.edu/internal-transfer
I have heard it is difficult to do an internal transfer into CAS. I could be wrong…
While internal transfers are certainly possible, I’d avoid strategically choosing the easier entry point for you with an eye towards transferring because it is likely to backfire for you in a big way. If you look like you are gaming admissions, you’ll be rejected from the one you apply to and will never have that choice. If everything submitted screams one major but you are applying to another because you think it will be a foot in the Cornell door, with the goal of transferring to the major you really want down the line, you are playing a dangerous game. Cornell’s adcons have figured that all out decades ago.
