Changing colleges

@Gumbymom Hi!!! Just had a quick question. I am the mother of an incoming UCSD freshman. After going to orientation he realized his college is not in any way a fit for his major. He would have to take many classes which not only will take him longer to graduate but are not related to his major. Do you know if there is any way of switching colleges? He is really worried .Thank you!

He can file a inter-college transfer but he has to prove that by staying in his original college that the GE’s will keep him from graduating on time and that the new college he wants to transfer into will allow him to graduate 2 quarters early.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Do you have any suggestions who we need to talk to? to get this paperwork? Would it be admissions or a counselor

I would contact the Provost of the specific college he is interested in transferring out and into.

The transfer is not right away although this is from an old document for 2013.

**If you entered UCSD as a freshman, the earliest you may apply is during your third quarter of enrollment at your current college. Your request will not be considered until all grades have been posted. In addition, you must have fewer than 135 units. Note: the senior residency requirement states that you must complete 35 of the final 45 units at UCSD.

Transfers between undergraduate colleges at UCSD are only granted under exceptional circumstances.

The requirements to petition for the exception include:
Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Student must demonstrate that the transfer will shorten time to degree by at least two full time quarters (which must include elective units, major, and general education requirements). This is demonstrated by the submission of comprehensive quarter- by -quarter plans for both the home college and the desired college, with equivalent course loads.

Transfer students must have completed one full quarter at UCSD and have no more than 150 units.
Students who entered as freshmen must have completed their first year at their home college, completed the ELWR as well as college writing requirement, and have completed no more than 135.0 units.

Thank you so much???
