Hello everyone,
I got accepted by University of Toronto, but unfortunately not with the major I want. I really want to go UOT but I am afraid I will be stuck with the major I don’t like for the rest of my college year. Other school such as Purdue has got me the major I want as I got accepted, but honestly I really prefer UOT.
I got into UOT with a general study major, and I really want to go to computer science.
Ppl that are in UOT and had successfully changed their major, please help me!
What should I do? Furthermore, what should I be planning beforehand to switch to the major I want in UOT?
Thank you guys!!
If you were admitted to the Faculty of Arts and Science (social sciences, math, humanities etc.) you can easily go in to computer science after first year. Even if you are admitted as a computer science student for first year, you are still not in the major yet; everyone has to apply to a major after first year in ArtSci. You will however not have priority for first year CS courses required to apply to the major/specialist (from reading posts on reddit this shouldn’t be a problem).
Here’s a link of the requirements for CS: http://www.artsandscience.utoronto.ca/ofr/calendar/crs_csc.htm#ASSPE1689
I agree with AlexJC. You will need to declare your major after first year. However, computer science is competitive and your chances of being admitted into the program after the first year is contingent upon what your GPA is after your first year of study. U of T has very tough academics and is sink or swim. If you start to sink first year, get some tutoring or seek academic support.
@AlexJC wait so if I’m applying to UofT cs, I first gotta go thru one whole year of artsSci, then I can choose cs, but is it easy to get in? That website u linked said that there are requirements still, what if you don’t meet those requirements for some reason.
