Hi guys,
I’m a prospective admit to University of Toronto computer science. However, I’m a little hesitant to enroll just yet because I’ve heard that it is extremely difficult to get into the major after your first year, can anyone speak to this? I think I could buckle down and do the work, but I just want to make sure it seems feasible, because I have other options where I would be guaranteed the major of computer science.
@Derek17 It’s not extremely difficult, just difficult, lol. You would have to meet the annual cutoff for admission to the major or specialist. Last year the cutoff was an 80% average in the 2 required courses, ie your average grade for the 2 first year CS courses had to be at least 80%. http://web.cs.toronto.edu/program/ugrad/admission.htm The class average in the first of those courses was around 78%. Probably most students in the course had not been admitted to the CS major, so those admitted under the CS program probably had a higher average. If you are willing to buckle down and do the work, it is certainly feasible.
Awesome to hear! I’m excited about the prospect of U of T’s department it’s very top notch. Right now I’m deciding between that OSU honors college and possibly Rice if admitted. Do you have any comments on those choices @bouders.
@Derek17 I don’t know much about either of those 2 universities. There would certainly be a major cultural and weather difference at U of T vs a Texas private university. I would recommend visiting if you haven’t already. I went to U of T for both grad and undergrad. I have a student at U of T now and he loves it. Which college were you admitted to?
I was admitted to UC I’ve visited all of the schools and U of T was prob the most impressive.
@Derek17 Are you a U.S. High school student? What state are you from? I’m from CT and I was admitted to U of T’s UC College too.
@admisionofficer I’m from ohio.
