Changing Majors Between Schools

How easy is it to change majors between different schools (i.e. Viterbi to Dornsife or vice versa)?

Easier to change to Dornsife than into Viterbi or Marshall. Like that at many schools. Easy to change out of Engineering and Business to something else, not so easy to go other direction. Doable just not always easy.

I know that if you want to go to Viterbi from another school, they will put you in some engineering classes and see how you do first before making it official.

You need to fill out a form and get a 3.0 for one semester.

My son went from Dornsife to Viterbi CS Games. He had to take two CS classes then the next math class (for him it was Linear Math). He obtained an A in CS 103, A- in CS 109 and a B- in math (bombed the final worth 40% of his grade). He got in but it was stressful waiting for the decision. We were told that even if you get a 3.0 in each class, admission was not guaranteed.

^ Maybe it was different that year. My friend and I were both told by counseling that you only needed a 3.0 average (not per class, but only counting STEM coursework of course) & you’re in. This was 2014-2015.

@Lilliana330 This was at the end of 2014-2015. He was accepted into Viterbi starting in Fall 2015. I really think 3.0 per each required course for that major is the minimum and acceptance is not guaranteed.
