How hard is to to change majors? I applied as chemE, but if I get accepted, I want to switch to matE.

easy like sunday morning.

really? i heard it was kinda tough

tough like monday? or tough like the tough love that a parent gives?

either way, i think it’s nothing more than a hop and a skip and a few signatures and you’re all set. especially since you just got into the school and havent done any course work pushing you towards your UNintended major.

either either way, hearsay is one thing, go out and find the facts for yourself: [Change of Major — UC Berkeley College of Engineering](http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/degree-options/change-of-major.html)

Since ChemE is under CoC while MSE is under CoE, you actually gotta attend the info session, turn in some paperworks including your transcripts, and write a compelling essay why you want to switch. More importantly, once you switch, you can’t switch back or choose another branch in engineering.

yeah i was just kinda bumping this thread until someone who actually knows something responded, just ignore my comments… lol. thanks UpMagic

I’ve heard that it’s very tricky to switch between majors in different colleges that have a lot in common (like ChemE and MatE) because it’s hard to come up with a compelling reason (as UpMagic says) as to why you need to switch. There are, however, plenty of opportunities for ChemE students to study materials science, if the transfer doesn’t work out, as “Materials” is one of the popular concentrations. It’s far too early to be worried about this, though.

How hard is it to change majors within the same college?

lol crowslayer.

Thanks guys. aaargh this seems like a pain if I want to change majors. Why do they make it so hard to change? And yea I agree is early, I don’t know if I got into Berkeley yet…but just thinking things. Since if I don’t go to Berkeley I’ll probably end up at Georgia Tech, and it seems like they are more flexible there about the majors.

It’s not hard to transfer between. I mean, don’t you know how you write?

I know how to write, but not very well imo
