i was admitted to the college of liberal arts and sciences, but im interested in going to engineering- possibly computer science, materials science, or bioengineering (havent really decided). if i choose to attend, is it difficult to transfer and study engineering within the first year? if it is difficult to change into engineering, what would i have to do in order to get in? would i still be able to take engineering courses even though im not an engineering major? also, are inter-departmental transfers difficult?

The soonest you can request a change is in second semester freshman year for entry into the engineering college beginning sophomore year. Bioengineering does not currently take transfers from the other colleges. Otherwise to transfer you will need a minimal college GPA of 3.0 and to complete course work that freshman in engineering usually complete. The 3.0 is what is required to just be considered and what is actually needed could be much higher and you should not assume it will be easy to transfer. The course work required can usually be taken by any freshman in that it is mainly calculus, chemistry, physics, a CS course, and writing courses.
