I was wondering about how hard it was to change majors, especially since the major is in a different category. I applied to UCI for computer engineering, but now I really want to transfer to business information management, or something that relates to econ/business.

I have a lot of questions about changing majors:

1) can you change your major in the first year of college?

2) the major i want to transfer to is in the school of business, and my current one is in the school of engineering. Does that make transferring harder?

3) Does your major matter in the first year? Such as taking pre-requisite courses for your major as a freshman.

4) If you cannot change your major in the first year, is transferring majors like an application process? (My friend told me business information management only has ~100 slots, so it's very competitive).

I cannot think of any more at the moment, but any other tips about transferring majors will be helpful. Thanks in advance!
